| Japantown Seniors Celebrate Independence Day with Housing Choices!
The 4th of July, also known as Independence Day, is a time to celebrate the spirit of freedom. Housing Choices had a fantastic 4th of July celebration this year, recognizing the importance of independence for everyone, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Resident Coordinator Faye hosted a vibrant party at Japantown Senior Apartments, bringing residents together for a delightful afternoon of board games, sandwiches, jazz music, chips, cookies, and socializing. The event was a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect and enjoy the summer sunshine.
Alex Lasarev, a resident of Japantown for nine years, shared his enthusiasm: "I like it. I like to come here. I like games, I like bingo. I like the food they do. Everything is good." Alex particularly enjoyed the BBQ chicken sandwich and chips.
The day was a special reminder to embrace the liberty and self-reliance everyone deserves. |

| | | | | Housing Bond Measure Advances to November Ballot: Our Work Continues!
On June 27, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) unanimously voted to send the $20 billion 9-county Bay Area affordable housing bond measure to the November 2024 ballot!
The decision came after nearly two hours of supportive testimony from various groups. If passed in November, the measure will support the development and preservation of approximately 90,000 affordable homes across the Bay Area. A recent poll by FM3 Research shows that two-thirds of Bay Area voters believe more resources are needed to address housing affordability.
This housing bond measure represents a vital opportunity to combat the homelessness crisis and provide much-needed affordable housing for marginalized communities, including individuals with developmental disabilities.
We aren’t done yet! The bond still needs to pass in November.
Let's work together to make a meaningful impact and create a more inclusive and supportive Bay Area for all. |
