Rocketing to Victory


A University of Maryland student team soared to victory at the 2024 Spaceport America Cup held June 17 to 22 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In just two short years, the Terrapin Rocket Team has risen from 30th place to competition victor, receiving the 2024 Genesis Cup Trophy and first place in the 10K Student Researched and Developed (SRAD) category.

Ranked 11 Overall, 8 Among Publics


For the sixth consecutive year, the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland ranks among the country’s top 10 public universities in graduate engineering programs, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024–25 rankings.

Vivek Uppoor recognized by Dynamics Committee for his paper “Aeromechanics Investigation of a Dual-Wing Lift Compounded Slowed Mach Scale Rotor.”

Designing for Moon Mission


A UMD team comprised of students in Professor David Akins' ENAE 483 and 484 capstone courses took second overall, and Best in Theme at the 2024 RASC-AL Competition, one of NASA’s longest running higher education competitions.

Two Students Win Spots in SAMPE University Research Symposium


Undergraduates Christopher Clark and Grace Johnson were selected for the 2024 Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) University Research Symposium Competition, and they will present their research this fall at SAMPE’s 2024 Composites and Advanced Materials Expo (CAMX).
