Welcome to the latest edition of the C-VENT newsletter. As September arrives, so do fall grant deadlines. I hope you have some great ideas in the works. If, as you write, you think of ways our group could support multidisciplinary research on tobacco, nicotine, and vaping, or if you’re looking for a collaborator with specific expertise, please send me an email. In this edition, we are excited to share photos and information from our June retreat. It was wonderful to gather with so many colleagues committed to reducing the harms of nicotine and tobacco and who value multidisciplinary collaboration. We also provide details about upcoming talks, job postings, funding opportunities, and publications. We would love to feature your work! Please email us if you or your group would like to be featured as an investigator, or if you have new publications or know of upcoming talks related to tobacco, vaping, or nicotine.

Highlights from C-VENT Research Retreat

The Inaugural C-VENT Research Retreat was hosted on June 28th 2024. The event brought together 38 researchers and clinicians representing twelve different departments from CU Anschutz, UC Health, VA, CU Boulder, and Colorado Dept. of Public Health and Environment.

This was a vibrant and engaging gathering that fostered networking and potential for future multidisciplinary collaborations. Attendees engaged in an interactive discussion about shared vision/mission for the C-VENT program, and they learned about latest advances in genomics and personalized medicine for nicotine dependence from keynote speaker Dr. Li-Shiun Chen from Washington University School of Medicine.

The news left some public health advocates aghast that government entities would incentivize a new manufacturing plant from this specific company, whose controversial history dates back decades.
