The summer is a quiet but beautiful time on campus. If I am lucky I will run into Brenda or Bernard in the Quad. You might know Brenda, the brown squirrel with the blond tail. Or perhaps Bernard, the always busy digging holes groundhog that has set up camp outside the dining hall in the Quad (and it seems under the garbage cans as well.) We also have our share of baby birds learning to fly, chatty crows that I think might be chatting about Hegel, or maybe just wondering what those folks are up to on the Champlain Roof.
If you are on campus this summer you also know it has been very hot, especially on the West Bank where air-conditioning has been hard to find, and all this rain means everything is so very green. What summer does lack though, is people! I am so happy on days when I run into a group of people on a tour and I can tell them all about our wonderful community, or when I have a chance to sit and chat with students as I did last week at our Glazed and Confused Pottery event in the Dining Hall.
This week you are going to see some activity on our socials as we engage with our incoming students who are choosing their college! Why did you choose Lady Eaton College? If you didn’t choose and you just found yourself here, what is it about our community that keeps you here, and reading our newsletter? Are there things we could be doing better or differently? I would love to hear from you. |

You are always welcome to email me with your thoughts concerns or ideas. We could go to Starbucks and grab a coffee and chat (my treat of course) or have a lemonade in the quad. Of course if you aren’t in town over the summer, do come find me in the fall – the offer stands!

Hello Good Humans of LEC!
I hope that you are all taking advantage of the summer weather -however that lands for you. This past week we had our pottery event and OH! my GOODNESS!! The very cool snails that came out of this adventure filled the dining hall with such joy! Thank you to everyone who came out and tried their hand at this artful adventure! Don't forget to come back and paint your creature on the 24th of July! Then they will be fired in the kiln at the Art School of Peterborough and then be ready for your joyful collection! I can barely wait to see all the magic that comes from this time together, dear humans! This day July 24th is also the National day of Self-Care! There will be a wide selection of options offered on campus to take time to highlight some self-care avenues you might want to traverse. I think that pottery painting is up there on the list for me of self-care activities. Woot Woot!! LEC What!? LEC This! |

Hello friends of LEC! Welcome to the Sorting Sword!
There are obviously so many Pokémon to sort and despite how fun it would be, I do not have the time to Sort ‘Em All! So instead, I’ve picked Pokémon from 3 places
This list of most popular Pokémon Pokémon that I thought represented each College Mascot Other random ones that Maddie told me I should do (they are really the expert)
I think some of these picks are pretty self-explanatory, but as I spent a lot of time sorting this week, I’m going to keep the column pretty short!
Until next time!

So, there is obviously a lot of Pokémon here, but upon reflection, I think I may have accidentally assigned each Pokémon type to a College through my selections… so I actually did that below! |

A couple comments on these choices: Giving Champlain fire and ice was an interesting choice on my part but it seemed to fit for some reason, so here we are. I think our LEC vibes fit the world of Pokémon very well and so our types fit perfectly I think I’ve decided Traill is dark and mysterious so they get all the cool ones I’m not sure if it was the science complex or the colour scheme but OC and electric just felt right. Placing Pokémon in Gzowski was hard because I think they all kind of fit in Gzowski, but the grass type vibes fit best.

Hi friends! This week I’m going to tell you about another Studio Ghibli movie (sue me), Kiki’s Delivery Service!
I watched this movie a lot growing up, but I hadn’t watched it in a few years, until a couple of weeks ago when my sister was dyeing my hair purple. Which was a very fitting movie for the occasion I think.
Kiki’s Delivery Service is a coming of age story that follows a 13 year old witch named Kiki who moves to a new town on her own to study/practice her magic.
This movie is about growing up and finding oneself, which is obviously relatable to all 13 year olds, but I think that it’s also relatable to university students.
I remember moving away from home to this new city and trying to find myself among the crowd of people and being terrified but excited. Even now, I’m over halfway through my degree and I think that I find out new things about myself every year. If, by chance, any incoming students are reading this (or anyone who might find this helpful), my unsolicited advice to you is to follow your heart, you might make mistakes but mistakes can lead to the best situations or the best stories and I think that this movie is a great display of that. This got more sentimental than I had intended, it’s that time of year I suppose.
If you like fantasy, coming of age, exploring, and a bit of romance, then you will love this movie, I seriously can’t recommend it enough. p.s. this week’s theme is Pokémon so I hope that you like this photo of Jiji, Kiki’s adorable cat familiar. p.s.s. the blanket that I have from this movie is so comfortable and soft, it’s like a warm hug. |

Hello my faithful readers~!
As some of you may know I collect Pokémon cards and I have since I was a kid. I became a fan through playing Pokémon HeartGold on my DS and I started collecting cards as my obsession grew. For a time reference the games were released in 2009 and this is a testament for how long Pokémon has had a grasp on me.
I got back into collecting cards in high school and haven’t really slowed down since. I would love to take up my entire column just discussing the best TCG cards and the meta but I won’t subject you all to that and instead I would like to showcase the coolest card I have ever pulled and my favourite single that I have added to my collection. My roommate pulled this card and gave it to me as a birthday gift with my word that I wouldn’t sell/trade it. At the time it was worth about $80 and now it is up to over $200. If you are shocked by the sheer amount of money that cardboard is worth, I would like to say that is just the start of it. Arguably collecting Pokémon cards are an investment, but one you will likely never get a return on.
Oh well, I really love my shiny cardboard and if anyone has any old Pokémon cards taking up space in their crawl space, please reach out to me. I know of a loving home where they could go- *cough cough* my house.
Also! If you play Pokémon Go my friend code is: 7229 8409 6288
