As a coalition, Equal Measures 2030 is connected through its strong belief in ‘Factivism’ - the art of using credible and timely data to expose gender inequality and injustice, motivate change, and drive accountability.
We embody Factivism in our flagship product, the SDG Gender Index which monitors gender equality through out the SDGs and will be updated with new findings, rankings and policy recommendations this September!
But beyond the Index, we are committed to encouraging and supporting other advocates and drivers of social change to embody Factivism in their work. This is why we teamed up with Salesforce for the second time to implement the Data Journalism Fellowship this time in Latin America. We equipped 7 journalists and 3 activists with Tableau online training, tailored support, a two-year Tableau software license, and a US$1,500 grant to support their work on a gender data journalism project.
In my role at Equal Measures 2030, I had the privilege of working with these fellows and supporting their journey, even as they encountered forced or voluntary migrations, grappled with long workdays, endured power outages, and experienced personal losses. All of them juggled the Fellowship alongside other responsibilities, often working late nights and weekends and in the end, produced powerful data-driven stories on Venezuelan, Colombian, and Guatemalan women and girls struggling with gender inequalities in hostile contexts.
It has been an immense pleasure to accompany the fellows along their data journey and see how their ideas have turned into sound and compelling stories that evoke emotions and spark change. My time with Equal Measures 2030 has come to an end but I look forward to the stories these fellows continue to uncover, and to continue spreading the power of Factivism in securing a Gender Equal Future for all.
