Beer bash at the beach

Sample the brews at annual Beerfest

Love a good craft beer ... or how about, let's say ... more than 20 of them? The annual Sandpoint Beerfest features nearly two dozen handcrafted beers from regional breweries. Entry fee gets you tastes of all of interest, plus a souvenir glass. The 'Fest is held from 12-5 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at City Beach, and local band Right Front Burner - aka RFB - will play live. Must be 21, and must exercise moderation, of course! Tickets are available at the gate on the day of Beerfest, but you can also get 'em in advance.

Take a walk thru history

Weekly history tours tell local color

Sandpoint has a colorful history, from its start as a stop on the Northern Pacific railroad through rough-and-tumble logging and mining days when it earned the moniker "Hangtown." Yeah, there's a story behind that - and you can ask during weekly history walks offered at 2:30 p.m. every Friday this summer. Docents from the Bonner County Historical Museum tell of early history and stories behind many historic buildings. The nominal fee benefits the nonprofit museum; get tickets online or with a call to 208-263-2344.

Stars, under the stars

Festival brings stellar musicians

Go ahead and fact-check us on this one: The Festival at Sandpoint summer concert series is quite simply one of the finest in the entire Northwest. Now in its 41st year, the Festival features nine mainstage acts during two weeks, July 25-August 4, with nationally renowned artists including Trombone Shorty (pictured), Blues Traveler, Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors, Maren Morris, Jason Mraz and more. Held under the stars, on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, the beautiful venue just possibly makes the music even sweeter. See who's playing, and get tickets.

Fine wine in high places

Fest pairs wine and alpine beauty

At the Northwest Winefest coming July 20-21 at Schweitzer, sample wines from around the Pacific Northwest while drinking in the amazing mountain and lake views the alpine setting provides ... at no extra cost, we might mention. Along with wines from some of the top regional vintners, the event features a variety of local food vendors, a lineup of live music from six different regional bands and a whole host of mountain activities including chairlift rides to Schweitzer Peak, hiking, mountain biking and e-biking, zip line and kids activities in the village.
