Recording: Between The Lines

On May 2024, our impact associate, Ana Portnoy Brimmer, gathered the disability and immigrant communities for an evening of artistry, music, and healing. Between the Lines was a virtual event that explored our film through the lens of poetry and how people living at the intersections of immigration, disability, and mental health often experience a liminal existence - inhabit the space between the lines.

Witness the powerful performances of disabled and (formerly) undocumented artists, including Maria Palacios, Yosimar Reyes, and Julie Yeeun Kim. Afterwards, Pedro and Set Hernandez join in for a nuanced conversation about artmaking, representation, and audience sensibilities. We hope the conversation resonates with you.

Round and Around (Live) by Julie Yeeun Kim

Original Music to Stream

Round and Around, the original song for unseen, has just been re-released on streaming platforms as a live version, performed by the songwriter herself, Julie Yeeun Kim. As Julie wrote, “… obviously it’s impossible to put decades of experience into a 3 minute song. But this song begins to capture how I’ve simultaneously despised & desired visibility and vulnerability… What is it about disclosing & sharing the self that’s so hard and appealing for people like me?”

And as if that’s not enough, we celebrate Julie, as she begins her journey to pursue a PhD in English at the University of Pennsylvania. In her own words, “More than anything I love knowing that I’m being sharpened as a resource and asset for all my people, blood and not. Everything I have is ours to share.”

Please join us in celebrating our disabled/immigrant communities and Julie herself!
