Dear <<First Name>>
A huge thank you to everyone who donated goods at our Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) food drive. Your generous donations help the ASRC support over 1,450 households a year, made up of 3,523 individuals in need of food for themselves and their families. Whilst our food drive has finished, please note we happily accept donations of nonperishable food, basic toiletries and cleaning goods for the ASRC at any time during our business hours, Monday to Thursday 9.15am - 4.45pm.
As we settle into term 3, the house is buzzing again! Our usual breadth of weekly classes and activities are back up and running and we have welcomed many new faces to the house, from new participants in our programs through to new venue hirers, who have been holding parties and celebrations in the house during these colder weekends! If you are keen to try a new activity, or you are looking for a venue for an upcoming event, take a look at our Program Schedule and Venue Hire Info online, or drop by reception to chat about what's on offer.
Winter is a great time to learn something new, especially when indoors, and across August there are a number of new activities and programs taking place in the centre. NurtureSafe First Aid Solutions will be running First Aid and CPR programs for the public, to help to make you confident, competent and capable in a medical emergency. We also have a 4-week self-care course, starting on Wednesday August the 7th, where you can learn the essentials of mindfulness for physical and mental well-being. Bookings for these programs are essential. Please see below for more details.
As always, if you have any questions, please call us on 9531 1954 or pop in and say hello. In the meantime, keep warm, stay connected, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Warm regards,
The ESNLC team.

See below for this months' Roomers contribution
Each month, we will share a piece written by our Roomers participants for you to read through and ponder at your own leisure. This month we are featuring The Wedding User by Marianna Jans, a piece that has been recently published in Whack magazine.
The Wedding User
Emily woke up drenched in sweat.
She needed to get ready for a family function, her brother's wedding. She only had a couple of hours to get ready. With sweat pouring down her body along with a nausea caused by her withdrawals, she popped a couple of Lyrica hoping they would kick in in time to get rid of the methadone sweats and the heroin sick feeling.
She couldn't handle screwing up the wedding.
She'd promised her brother that she'd be there, and she had every intention of sticking to that promise but the gear she'd saved to get her through the wedding had already gone through.
The hot and cold sweats were really bad. She hopped into the shower even though she knew it would be pointless and that she'd be drenched in sweat again as soon as she hopped out, but she did it anyway.
She tried to apply her makeup, but again, the sweats were so intense that her makeup was dripping off her face. This was a disaster. She pulled herself together. She would have to go natural. She put her dress on, and you could clearly see the sweat patch on the back of her dress and under her arm pits. She was so embarrassed but she had to remind herself that the wedding wasn't about her - it was about her brother - so she took a deep breath and as she exhaled, she could feel the Lyrica finally kicking in and the sweats slowly settling down as she was no longer freezing. She looked in the mirror and noticed her track marks. She was so disappointed in herself.
Just as she was thinking how much she hated her appearance, her brother came up behind her, gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, "I'm so glad you're here it means the world to me, thank you for coming".
- Marianna Jans
