What’s Our Role as Planners in Providing Safe Spaces for Queer Women?
Event Description: The conversation will begin with an introduction by Linda Amato, who will share the history of the LGBTQ and Planning Division, the contributions of women to its growth, member interests, and division activities. She will also discuss ways to get involved.
Following this, Marisa Turesky will present her research on the interconnectedness of urban planning and lesbian/women’s safe spaces. Through storytelling, she will share her journey researching the disappearing lesbian bar, archival research, and interviews with older lesbian women facing challenges in aging in place. We will explore how planners can make a difference and recognize the need for all women to have safe havens free from discrimination in our communities, workplaces, and social spaces.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation and learn how we can contribute to creating inclusive and safe environments for everyone.
