August programming scheduled at Former Governors' Mansion State Historic Site



BISMARCK, N.D. – The Former Governors' Mansion State Historic Site is offering free activities in August to promote learning and fun for adults and children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cookies and lemonade will be served. 

Aug. 6 Storytime with Miss Sparkles and Bookmarks, 2-4 p.m. Join Miss Sparkles for story time from 2 to 2:30 p.m., then make a bookmark to take home. 

Aug. 8 Beading, 2-4 p.m. View the various beads found during the restoration of the Former Governors' Mansion. Make your own beaded designs.

Aug. 10 Fibers & Flavors, 1-4 p.m. Fiber craft enthusiasts, bring your crochet, knitting, or preferred fiber craft projects to work on in the ambiance of the Former Governors’ Mansion. Shirley Temples and cookies will be served.

Aug. 13 Macrame, 2-4 p.m. Macrame has been a popular activity for many years. Learn the basic knots to create your own macrame project.

Aug. 15 Top Toys, 2-4 p.m. The attic of the mansion has long been used as a playroom. Tour the attic to try out the toys. Decorate a toy of your own to take home.

Aug. 20 Horseshoes, 2-4 p.m. Horses were the primary form of transportation in the early days of Bismarck. Discover how people used horses, and decorate your own horseshoes. 

The Former Governors’ Mansion, 320 East Ave. B, Bismarck, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Admission is free. The mansion is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 12-4 p.m. For more information, contact Johnathan Campbell, shsfgm@nd.gov or 701.328.9528.
