It's August already? How'd that happen?! Time flies when you're busy, they say. So, what's been keeping the SPMC staff occupied? Well, let's see...
The library expansion project is moving along on-schedule. It's quite entertaining watching all the progress outside our studios. Construction noise certainly is noticeable, and can impact programming (especially in the radio studios), but fortunately it hasn't overwhelmed any recordings up to this point.
Continuing on the subject of the library expansion, starting on Monday, August 12th, the S un Prairie Public Library and the Sun Prairie Media Center are adjusting office hours to accomodate construction. This change will allow for the more disruptive construction work to be done while our volunteer producers, KIDS4 students, and visitors are not in the building.
New Office Hours for the Media Center begin August 12:
Monday-Thursday: 10am to 5pm
Friday: Noon to 5pm
Access to the Media Center outside of open office hours will need to be organized with staff ahead of time.
These new office hours will be in effect for the majority of the construction project.

Thank you for your understanding and support during construction.
Changing gears, we just wrapped up another successful series of summer workshop s! In total, we offered seven workshops ranging from "Adventures to Animation" to "Adventures in Movie Making" to just under 60 students. Thanks to Rachel Packard, Colin Lessig, John Schmitt, Owen Chin, Megan Milewski, Ian Graves, and Amber Sabo for leading the crews!
Speaking of staff, Rachel Packard accepted the position of Sun Prairie Media Center Director in June. Rachel is excited for the opportunity! To round out the staff list, we're happy to introduce the newest SPMC staff member - Erika Case. Erika started working with us on July 29th as a part-time Production Manager. Learn more about Erika in the next newsletter!
KIDS4 Happenings
2024-2025 KIDS4 Registration Now Open
Here’s your child’s chance to write and produce their own videos by joining the one-of-a-kind KIDS4 program! KIDS4 is an after-school media production program run by the Sun Prairie Medi a Center designed for students in 4th through 8th grade.
In KIDS4, students are trained in many areas necessary to create their own television and video productions including cameras, lighting, sound, directing, producing, writing, editing, and animation. While students work with adult staff, their creativity is unfiltered and their work is entirely their own. By creating their own media messages, students become smarter and more critical consumers of others' media messages. Students enrolled in KIDS4 work after school once a week in ‘crew s’ and their work airs on KIDS4, a 24-hour public access station available on Charter, TDS, Roku and Apple TV devices, as well as streaming on kids4.tv and on the free Sun Prairie Media Center app. Some projects will also air on 103.5 The Sun Community Radio.
Registration opened on August 1. KIDS4 Registration is available online at www.kids4.tv/kids-4-signup-info/. If your child is interested in touring KIDS4, please contact us to set up a time to visit and meet staff at staff@sunprairiemediacenter.com or call 608-837-4193. The final deadline for registration submission is on September 13.

KIDS4 crews are set to start in October 2024 and end in April 2025. Keep in mind that space is limited so don't delay! While the program is filling up fast, we encourage all interested participants to complete a registration form as we do take students on a waitlist. Register today to secure your child’s spot in the 2024-2025 KIDS4 Crews!
- Program Fee = $175 for SPMC members, $225 for non-members. (Membership information available here.) Price includes a t-shirt, crew poster, and digital copies of the projects that the kids complete. (Scholarships available for those who qualify).
