Summer Reading Wrap-Up

Summer reading is quickly coming to a close, but there's still time for you to join the Summer Reading Program (for all ages)! Whether you're a child, teen, or adult, sign up to get the most out of captivating stories. Through your participation, you will earn the chance to win fantastic prizes. Summer Send-Off Reading & Resource Fair

And that's not all we have in store for you! Join us for our Summer Send-Off Reading & Resource Fair on Saturday, August 10 from 1PM to 3PM, at Everts Park, 111 North Ave, Highwood, IL 60040.


This action-packed family event will include a lively Folkloric Dance Presentation at 1:30PM, followed by a fun Zumba session at 2:45PM to keep everyone moving! Come early to enjoy food provided by our partner State Representative Bob Morgan’s office, and stay to enjoy great family-friendly activities including a Bounce House, Craft Stations, Nature Backpacks, Simbulance (simulated ambulance), Loteria, Summer Reading Prizes & Raffles, and Sno Cones. Enjoy the creations of our Balloon Artist, get your face painted by a skilled Face Painter, and explore all that our partner organizations have to offer at the Resource Fair!  We look forward to celebrating with you!

THERAPY SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE

Our Health Equity department is happy to offer comprehensive mental health services, including bilingual/bicultural individual therapy and support groups. Our therapy services are designed to support individuals dealing with emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges.


Services include:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions with a licensed therapist to navigate personal issues, mental health challenges, or emotional difficulties.

  • Family Therapy: Improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships through sessions involving family members.

  • Couples Therapy: Enhance your relationship with your partner by addressing issues, improving communication, and building a stronger bond.

  • Support Groups: A space where individuals facing similar challenges or life situations can connect, share experiences, and offer mutual support.


Our therapists use a variety of techniques tailored to meet your unique needs, aiming to enhance your overall mental well-being.

NEW RESOURCE: EXPLORE MORE ILLINOIS

HLCC is thrilled to offer Explore More Illinois to Highwood residents! This fantastic resource allows patrons to access museum passes at reduced or free rates. You can find and book these passes directly through our website’s homepage. No need to visit the library in person—just use your valid Highwood Library card to access the resource.

HLCC BOOK CLUB: August Pick

This month, we are reading Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. The novel centers around a failed bank robbery that spirals into an unexpected hostage situation during an open house, bringing together an eclectic group of strangers. Through humor and heartfelt moments, Backman explores themes of human connection, community, and the anxieties we all face. Join us for a discussion of this charming and insightful book!

  • Audiobooks and e-books are available on Boundless for three-week check-outs.


The discussion will take place in English. Refreshments will be provided.
