An FCA-FAC weekend workshop on the proposed new zoning bylaw is planned for the morning of Saturday September 7. More details will be released shortly. An objective of the event is to enable each participant to stimulate discussion in his/her community about the proposal. Please save the date in your calendar.
2. Ward-specific public information sessions on the new zoning bylaw project are being held from August 21 through September 11. The list of events, with some registration links, is at https://engage.ottawa.ca/zoning (scan down the page to find the list).
3. Ottawa’s Official Plan continues to be subject to corrections and minor changes. This process is explained on Engage Ottawa at https://engage.ottawa.ca/the-new-official-plan. The latest package, Omnibus Amendment 2, is available on the “devapps” feature of the City website (Application # D01-01-23-0016) and comments are requested by August 13. FCA representatives have met with the City officials working on the project. FCA efforts have centred on ensuring that the distinction between residential density targets (Table 3b of the OP) not be confused with minimum residential density requirements (Table 3a of the OP).
4. At the FCA Annual General Meeting held on June 19, the following Board roles were confirmed: Lorne Cutler – Treasurer; Leeanne Van der Burgt – Secretary; Directors - Arto Keklikian, Elizabeth McAllister, Lynne Davidson-Fournier, Paul Johanis, Phil Sweetnam, Stephen Turner, Warren Waters; and Robert Brinker - Past President. Following the Annual Meeting, Paul Johanis volunteered to become the FCA Chair and has been elected as Vice President.
5. The outgoing President, Robert Brinker, delivered a report at the AGM on the activity of the 2023-24 year. The document is found at https://fca-fac.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/240619PP.pdf.
6. There will be a virtual meeting on Thursday, August 15 from 7:00 pm to review the FCA By-Laws and the comments from advisor Judith Shane. This is to make recommendations for any revisions needed to comply with the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA). The intent is for the Board to approve the recommendations and present them to the FCA membership at the September General Meeting (September 18). If anyone would like to attend the August 15 meeting, please send an email to information@fca-fac.ca.
7. FCA would like to return to holding some of our General Meetings on an in-person (as opposed to virtual) basis. Have you suggestions for locations that might be affordable, be large enough (50 people), and have WiFi? These spaces could also be considered when we host workshops. Send your ideas to information@fca-fac.ca.
8. The Engage Ottawa webpage provides information on a wide range of City projects – from home plumbing to e-bikes to climate resiliency. For many of these topics, public input is being sought. You are encouraged to browse the site and find issues relevant to your community.
