“These are weird people on the other side. They want to take books away, they want to be in your exam room. That's what it comes down to, and don't get sugarcoating this: these are weird ideas.
- Tim Walz, July 2024
Hi all!

Anyone else feel like we've lived a lifetime in the past three weeks? But here we are less than 90 days out from the election, with an official (and incredible) Democratic ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and we are fired up!

Tim Walz is a veteran, a community college graduate, a high school teacher and football coach, a parent by virtue of IVF, a governor with extensive experience at many different levels of government, and -- within a few days of his name being added to the ticket -- a beloved figure whose "Big Dad Energy" is spawning internet love around the country. Harris and Walz have an unmissable bond, and their enthusiasm is contagious. At their first rally together he thanked her for "bringing back the joy," a sentiment that millions of Americans seem to share. (The photo above is just one of many from the past week showing that joy in action).

Now we have to keep working to make sure that Harris and Walz are our next President and Vice President!

Please join us this Tuesday, August 13th (tomorrow!), as we team up with the NDCC and Grassroots4GVP to write postcards to support gun sense candidates in key swing states. The details of this event are in the To Do section below, along with descriptions of additional ways to get involved. Whether you want to text or call, canvass or donate, write postcards to register voters or get out the vote, now is the time!

We're in the thick of it now, friends, and it will take all of us to win.

Onward.

TO DO

Write Postcards with Us!
We've now written over 31,000 postcards so far this year, and our team of writers keeps growing!  Join us and invite your friends!
-- In person at Action Hour on Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 at NU Kitchen on Pleasant Street in Newburyport. Or stop by to pick up a packet to write at home. ($5/packet of 10).
-- Remotely, by getting postcards at one of our pickup locations, buying postage and emailing  indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com  for the script and addresses. Email us if you want to get started.
--Host a gathering with your friends and neighbors. We'll supply postcard packets and will help you plan if you'd like assistance. Email indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com for supplies and information.

These postcards make a difference! The provider of our voter registration campaigns, Field Team 6, reports that close to 25% of the people who receive just one postcard use their website to register to vote; and the success rate rises to 33% when people also receive a call, text or email. This outreach has led to more than enough additional voters to impact the outcome of tight elections. For example, the exact type of work we are doing now helped Democrats win the 2022 Nevada Senate race and the Arizona and Wisconsin Governors' races. For more details, take a look at Field Team 6's full Impact Report here.

Voter Protection Efforts
Voter Protection Professionals (VoPro Pros) has several projects in need of volunteers:
  • Calling and texting inactive voters in several states to help ensure that they are not removed from the voter rolls.
  • Calling voters in PA concerning issues with their id's, late delivered or undeliverable ballots.
  • Researching the backgrounds of election officials in NV and FL to help prepare counties for potential refusals to certify election results.
If you'd like to sign up with VoPro Pros, email indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com and we'll help streamline the process. Also email us if you'd like to work together as a group on VoPro Pros projects.

MEMBER UPDATES

A group of Merrimac Dems recently gathered at the home of their committee chair for snacks, socializing and writing 100 postcards! This was their third gathering, with another one coming up and plans to keep meeting to write postcards. They reported that everyone was thrilled to be writing to register voters! Many thanks!

Other members are hosting gatherings with friends, family and neighbors, and we thank all of you for your own work, your hosting of get togethers, and your recruitment of other volunteers. We grow our impact exponentially through these efforts!

Here are a couple of photos of the latest Merrimac gathering, with everyone focused on writing! Please send us photos, quotations, and anecdotal stories about your gatherings. These are inspiring for all of us!
