We hope that you had a great end of 2011 and holiday season. 2012 started with quite a storm; hopefully you survived it unscathed and didn't lose too many tree branches. Seattle Home Show - Feb. 18th-26th
The Spring Seattle Home Show is only about two weeks away! Once again the show will be held at the Century Link Field Event Center. The show is taking place February 18th-26th: Monday- Friday from 12pm-8pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-6pm (We will not be at our booth on Sunday, but you are welcome to attend the show and visit our booth). The best way to purchase tickets is online, as you can get free parking (www.seattlehomeshow.com). We hope you can come and please stop by to see us, say hello and, as usual, feel free to have your friends come meet us too!
Home Repair tip
Due to the recent storm we wanted to pass a long a quick home repair tip regarding your roof. Hopefully you don't need this, but it is worth some thought.
Roof repair
One of the most expensive repairs most homeowners face is repairing or replacing their roof. Roof repairs or replacement can be costly, but delaying repairs only increases the damage to your house. Roofs need to be replaced when the shingles, wood or compost begin to fail. Most roofs last about 15 to 20 years, depending on how they’ve been maintained and the amount of exposure they’ve had. But once shingles start to deteriorate, they allow moisture to pool and the plywood structure underneath will begin to rot. That damage can extend into the rafters and spring a leak inside the home. Here in the Northwest, pine needles, leaves, moss and other natural materials collect on rooftops, trapping water and adding to potential problems. Prices for a new roof vary based on many factors, including the size of the roof, the steepness of the pitch and the materials used. Some new synthetics are more expensive but can last up to 50 years. If your roof has missing shingles, signs of rot or exposed tar paper, it’s time to think about reroofing. Leaks and rotting may mean serious problems, and waiting can exponentially increase the repair costs. Avoid the blue tarp temporary fix, which can actually hurt more than help, since moisture gets trapped below a tarp causing even more problems.
