Life in Platteville is always “Legend-Dairy,” and the Library is no exception. We have plenty of activities to help you enjoy the last days of summer and ease into fall, including a community bike ride, a new reading challenge for kids, and plenty of monthly clubs.

🚲 Fall Community Bike Ride

Bring your bikes and your helmets to Mound View Park and join us for a fun ride around the Mound View Park loop or a longer ride along the trail. Return to the park when you’re done riding for prizes, food, activities, and more. For all ages.

🔥 Smokey Bear Challenge

Only you can help Smokey celebrate his 80th birthday by learning how to prevent wildfires and help the environment. Read books and complete activities to earn badges. Sign up on our Beanstack App or stop by the library to pick up a log. For ages 4 - 11.

☀️ End of the Summer Library Challenge

Did you finish the Summer Library Challenge on Beanstack? Make sure to pick up your free book and prizes by the end of September. Prizes for ages 0-18 are at the Children’s Desk, and prizes for ages 19+ are at the first floor desk.

💲 Free replacement cards month

Lost your wallet card? Did your keychain card fall apart? Replacement cards are free (instead of the usual $1 charge) for the month of September in honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month. Bring in an ID to get your replacement card. Your first card is always free!

🐄 Get out the (Dairy Days) vote

Our cheese-attired Dairy Days cow is one “LegenDairy Cheesehead”! Check out all of the awesome cows along Main Street (and then vote for the Library’s!).

💎 Mining in Minecraft

Join local educator Jay Gesin and staff from the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums for a workshop about Mining in Minecraft. Registration required. For ages 7-17.

💃🕺 Let’s Dance!

Get ready to show off your skills as we project the game “Just Dance” up on our big screen and dance along at our teen program and our kids’ program.

 💻 Tech Talks

Join Library staff for a chat about a different tech-based topic each month. This month's topic is Social Media Literacy. Learn how to identify scams, bad posts, or ads; deal with "trolls"; and find trustworthy sources when you're using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or other social media sites. Bring your own device for an opportunity to try out new skills and ask questions.

✂ Let’s get crafty

Unwind: We’ll make the tea, you bring the conversation and a project to work on.


Make it Midweek Friendship Bracelets: We’re currently in our “crafting era” at this month’s Make it Midweek, where we’ll be making beaded bracelets with your own custom message.

💥 Teen anime

Join us each month for fun, food, and fandom as we eat snacks and watch anime. Ages 12-17.

Fall storytimes

🧸 Family Storytime

Storytime returns on Wednesday mornings starting September 25. Bring a stuffie friend and join us for songs, stories, and friends at the Library. For young children and their grown-up.


🎵 Musical Storytime

Join special guest presenter Miss Deborah for books, music, and sign language fun. Designed especially for children 2-5 years and an adult.

🎬 Movie Club

Our newest discussion group is Library Movie Club. From casual moviegoers to diehard cinephiles, all are invited to check out a copy of the movie, watch it at home, and join the discussion at the Library. This month’s selection is Moonlight, a 2016 American coming-of-age drama and Best Picture winner.

📚📚📚 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Party

Whether you and your child are currently reading 1000 books, finished reading 1000 books, or want to find out how to sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, you’re invited to celebrate your early readers with us!

Why should you sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten? With every book that you and your child read together, you’re launching your child’s learning – and learning begins long before kindergarten. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is an easy way to give your child a great jump start. Plus, when you’ve reached 500 and 1,000 books you’ll get a special prize!
