September meeting at the club apiary with live hive inspections!

Thurston County Fair was a beeautiful success!

We were excited to see this year's honey bee theme come to life all around the Fair. OBA represented our pollinator passion with an updated bee booth, honey tasting and voting, educational materials, honey and shirts for sale, and, of course, an observation hive of honey bees!

We had four entries into the honey taste test and over a thousand votes from fairgoers for their favorite. Congratulations to our WINNER, our President, Nathan!

For more updates and pictures, see Nathan's 2024 Fair Report.
For even more, check out the posts on our OBA Facebook page.
In focus: Scenes from the Thurston County Fair; Debbie Peters, a member of the Olympia Bee Keepers Association from Elma, talks to attendees as they taste different kinds of honey at the Thurston County Fair in Lacey on Thursday, Aug. 1. Ridley Hudson | ridley@chronline.com

A big THANK YOU to all our volunteers

Thank you to the team of 20 volunteers who helped create a fun, educational, and sweet experience for our community. You represented our organization well and your fellow OBA members appreciate you! Special thank you's to Nathan, David, and Pam, and their families, for your extended contributions and extra time.
"Your simple daily acts of service may not seem like much in and of themselves, but when considered collectively, they become just like the one-twelfth teaspoon of honey contributed by a single bee to the hive." -M. Russel Ballard

Next meeting is in the apiary!

Monday, September 9, 6 p.m. at the Freedom Farmers

This meeting is all about our new club apiary; checking in on the bees together, brainstorming ideas for how the apiary can be used to fulfill our mission, and figuring out how we will manage and maintain it.

We will be opening up the hives in the apiary, so bring any protective equipment you need if you plan to get close.

The Board expects the need for an apiary manager, potentially a paid position, with a commitment to monitor the hives and maintain the grounds.

Bring your questions and ideas!
