Back-to-School Block Party &

School Based Program Expansion Announcement

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who joined us at our Back-to-School Block Party, especially U.S Senator Durbin (Illinois) and Chicago Public Schools officials for joining us to announce the exciting expansion of our Chicago Survivors School-Based Trauma Support Program, a vital initiative that supports CPS students—primarily on the South and West Sides—in their journeys to grieve, cope with trauma, and honor the memories of those they’ve lost.

Their support is invaluable in helping us reach and connect with those who need it most.

Sending many thanks to our Local News for their Coverage and Support!

We are pleased to share that our event was covered by five major Chicago TV stations—FOX, ABC, CBS, WGN, NBC-Telemundo; WBBM, WBEZ, and WGN radio - as well as the Chicago Sun-Times article, “ free grief counseling program expands to two more CPS Schools",” by Violet Miller.

. This level of coverage is a testament to the importance of the work we are doing together for the community.

Chicago Tribune feature on our Storytellers Camp

“Our youths are more than their single stories of homicide…
When you open their minds to other stories, you get them unstuck from their grief. You can develop post-traumatic growth, which is how you make meaning from a traumatic event.”

- JaShawn Hill, Executive Director, Chicago Survivors
