Free learning series ‘Junior Historians’ featured at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum

BISMARCK, N.D. — School age children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to the free interactive learning series “Junior Historians” at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. Children and their accompanying adult(s) are asked to meet at the west entrance information desk.

The goal of the “Junior Historians” program is to cultivate an interest and passion for North Dakota’s history through weekly themes. In these 30-minute programs participants will listen to stories, participate in activities and discussions, and learn in a fun and engaging way.

Oct. 2 Lovely Leaves, 4 p.m. Fall is the time to enjoy beautiful leaves. Join us on a leaf hunt around the Capitol grounds and see different varieties of trees in North Dakota.

Oct. 9 Seeds, 4 p.m. Agriculture is the biggest industry in the state, and it is corn and sunflower harvesting season. Get the scoop on the fall crops of North Dakota and make a sunflower painting with real seeds.

Oct. 16 Oral History With the State Archives, 4 p.m. Have your family members shared stories from long ago? What information did they share, and what does it tell us about them? Discover the many spoken stories in the North Dakota State Archives and practice your oral historian skills.

Oct. 23 Bats Are Beautiful, 4 p.m. It’s a bird, it’s a plane—no, it’s a bat! Learn about these creatures, and make your own paper bat to launch it into the air.

Oct. 30 Pumpkin Fun, 4 p.m. What’s orange, round, and makes you think of fall? It’s a pumpkin! Come decorate a “gourd”geous paper pumpkin.
