September 2024
In your opinion, when does fall start? Is it the commencement of school? When fall sports kick off? Technically, summer ends on September 22nd, ...

but for many, including several Sun Prairie Media Center staff, that Tuesday after Labor Day signals the unofficial beginning of autumn. So, let's explore the SPMC happenings in this first month of fluctuating temperatures and breathtaking foliage.

KSUN Now & Life
SPHS Football Coverage Kicks Off

Sun Prairie football returns to KSUN! SPMC is planning coverage of every home game for Sun Prairie Cardinals and Sun Prairie Wolves.

Home games are scheduled to be broadcast on KSUN Now (Spectrum cable channel 983, TDS channels 983/1983). All games will be streamed on sunprairiemediacenter.com, on the SPMC Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV channels, and on the free-to-download Sun Prairie Media Center app. Home games are also scheduled to air live on 103.5 FM The Sun Community Radio. Following live coverage, games will re-air on both KSUN Now and Life (TDS channel 985) channels for additional viewing.

The Media Center would like to thank all the volunteers that have agreed to help bring these broadcasts to life. They will be on-site during the games to provide play by play coverage of the events. SPMC is always looking for additional volunteers who would like to help with game coverage. Please contact staff@sunprairiemediacenter.com for additional information.

In addition, Sun Prairie Media Center would like to thank their sponsor, Bank of Sun Prairie, for the continued support of these productions.

For a current schedule of football coverage and other programming, please go to SPHS Football Broadcast Schedule. This schedule is subject to change.

Okay, this next topic has nothing to do with fall, but we promised a more substantial introduction to our newest production manager, Erika Case. So lest we break a promise, here's more on Erika!

Meet Erika Case, Part-Time Production Manager
Being one of Sun Prairie Media Center's newest Production Managers marks a new milestone in my career.

I started my work in television media production way in 2003 as a Junior Writer for GMA Network, the Philippines' largest commercial broadcasting and television network. My career would then transition from the writer's room to the pre-production and production stage of TV creation as I would serve as the Executive Producer of some of the biggest shows for GMA Network, mainly focusing on variety and entertainment.

I would take my career to greater heights by moving to Los Angeles in 2017, serving as a Line Producer for numerous live events, sports coverages, and live concerts, mainly starring Filipino artists in the United States.  In the year 2021, I would be of service of Birns & Sawyer, the first Motion Picture equipment rental company located in Hollywood as Production Associate. This 2024, I found myself moving to Mayville, Wisconsin with my family and starting my work here in Sun Prairie Media Center. It has been such a joy working with my peers and having the opportunity to teach kids about media production, my lifelong career and passion. I look forward to guiding more volunteers and being a part of their journey as potential media practitioners!

Volunteer Spotlight

About 30 years ago I became aware of the Sun Prairie Media Center as a unique resource for programming, learning, and training young people for the world of communications, as well as volunteering for people of all ages. The level of creative output, which has originated here, rightly so, has been noticed far beyond Madison, even nationally.

It’s a place I wanted to get to know.

Years ago, when I first became aware of the Media Center, I learned about KIDS4, and the numerous opportunities to teach kids the power of television. I was intrigued by this creative undertaking that the City of Sun Prairie was behind, but also because KIDS4 was founded by my good friend, the late Nancy McMahon, who shared numerous ways the Media Center allowed kids to become adept at telling stories via television.

Concurrently, I was a working journalist searching for good stories throughout the world –Beyond the newsrooms of the Midwest and Washington D.C., I was on the ground in places far and wide, such as Java, Bali, Paris, Finland, Beijing, Geneva, Belgium, Tunisia, St. Petersburg, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Along the way I wrote two books on Wisconsin and co-wrote two books on how emerging technology and science at research institutions worldwide, involving tech transfer departments and medical schools, including the UW Madison, have, through first-ever innovations, changed the world for the better.

Twenty-five years ago, I launched Sharyn Alden Communications, Inc, a small publicity firm that highlights clients’ differentiators in their fields of endeavors. Many of these folks have been interviewed over the years at the Sun Prairie Media Center, since I have long known this is a community resource for excellent storytelling.

Looking back, when I was interviewed by Oprah on her TV show when she was broadcasting at Harpo Studios in Chicago, she asked, “What do you want to do next?”

I recall saying it would be fun to tell other people’s stories beyond print, maybe on-air, via TV or radio someday.

Fast forward several years. Sharing stories with a superb broadcast format behind me, the Sun Prairie Media Center is now happening—it’s the launch of “Everybody’s Got a Story” …my new radio program at the Sun Prairie Media Center.

Abundant thanks to Colin Lessig and Rachel Packard for helping move this forward from the idea stage---about a year ago to opening the doors to this volunteer who has many interviews lined up –because everybody has a unique story to tell.

Stay Tuned!
