Dear PTA Leader,
The Well-Resourced Schools Hub is now up on the Seattle Public Schools website. https://www.seattleschools.org/.../well-resourced-schools/
In the short time since the concept of a plan has been revealed, we have heard from a number of our members through phone calls, emails, on zoom. Based on feedback from members, we are planning to testify at the School Board meeting on Wednesday with concerns on specific aspects of the plan. This testimony is still being drafted, but we will share it with you in our newsletter when it is complete.
Thank you to the 70 people who joined at our General Membership meeting on zoom last week, and to all of you who have been reaching out to connect on this topic and to those who have stopped in at our office hours. As a reminder, Presidents can be reached at president@scptsa.org.
SCPTSA takes positions based on a vote of our membership. We are preparing to bring something forward at our next General Membership meeting (date coming soon) so that we can have discussion, feedback, and an opportunity for our members to vote on a position.
We understand that our leaders are wondering what they can and cannot do in this moment.
We know that the timeline is tight, and also we know that the best advocacy involves the participation of your full membership. We encourage you to get feedback on specifics of this plan, and raise questions and concerns, and to work with SCPTSA to advocate for something that will work for all of the children in our district. We have deep concerns about the concept of a plan that our Superintendent has put forward on the website, especially around engagement, and understanding of how our students will be supported and how they will meet their academic goals.
We are currently working on scheduling dates for an online meeting with PTAs at the schools that appear on the closure lists, and for all elementary schools. Do you also want us to hold regular office hours, and if so, what time are you most likely to be able to attend?
We have been continuing to reach out to partners and to talk to politicians to advocate around school funding, safety, mental health, and more.
In Community,
Seattle Council PTSA
