A Riveting "Part 2" on the Election with Reece
Last Wednesday evening, via Zoom, Reece Ellis continued his detailed and very comprehensive presentation of Campaign 2024. He summarized a few important points from the Kick-Off event and then carried on with his slides. We heard about important issues for voters compared to important issues of presidential campaigns in the past. No surprise, the economy is always ranked highly as a major concern. Despite who is running, many voters will vote against the incumbent government simply because they are financially strapped. Reece highlighted the important battleground states of this upcoming election and shared popular vote and electoral college results of previous elections. He did a fantastic job providing facts and opinions, with frank honesty, about what's at stake with the 2024 election in the state of Missouri and in the country. He talked about polls and their accuracy rates, showing outcomes of past elections relative to their polling. The margin of error is pretty consistent in most presidential races of the the last few decades. This year's race is very close according to numerous polls from a variety of sources; if consistent to history, we can expect the presidential results this November to come down to a few counties in a few states.
Civitas may plan a follow-up chat with Reece after November 5 to discuss election results. Stay tuned!

Click here to sign up for the Country Draft. Students should know which Model UN session they are attending when they sign up. October 5 is just a little over a week away!
The three FALL High School MUN dates:
Saturday, November 23, Session A from 9:00 am until noon (only 5 slots left for Session A!)
Saturday, November 23, Session B from 1:30 until 4:30 pm.
Saturday, December 14, Session C from 9:00 am until noon.
Any student can attend the Country Draft, although just one representative from a school is required to attend. We'll review the Civitas Model UN procedures and review helpful resources on the Civitas website on draft day, followed by a few rounds of trivia (with prizes) before dividing into the three separate sessions to draft for countries. Civitas will need to know which of the three sessions your school/school group plans to attend before you or other students sign up for the draft. Also, we are having an optional Resolution Writing workshop/brainstorming session on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 am until noon at Crossroads School.
