Dear Littleton Village Residents,
At a recent Board meeting, it was decided to transition from Republic Services as our waste collection provider. Last week, we issued Republic a 60-day notice of contract termination. This decision comes after receiving numerous complaints, including issues with trash spilling onto streets and restrictions on the type and quantity of trash they would collect. Despite our efforts, Republic’s management remained largely unresponsive, with phone calls often going unreturned. Republic Services will continue to provide service through the end of October.
Before moving forward, we sought bids from four waste and recycling companies, including Republic. Although Republic was the lowest bidder, the price difference among the other three vendors was minimal. After careful consideration, we have selected Home Builder Services (HBS), a local company, as our new waste and recycling provider. The HBS contract services will begin effective November 1st, 2024.
HBS offers several benefits that other vendors could not match, including:
Two additional bags or bundles (under 4 feet in length) allowed alongside the trash receptacle.
Two roll-off containers provided at no extra cost for Spring and Fall clean-ups.
Free Christmas tree disposal (trees must be cut to under 4 feet in length).
Drivers will retrieve any trash that may have spilled onto the street, with the help of resident notification.
While the cost per household will increase by $2 to a total of $14.95 per month, we believe this represents the best value based on the improved service and feedback from the community.
As we approach the transition, Republic will retrieve their receptacles during their final scheduled pick-up, and HBS will distribute new trash and recycling bins to each household. Please keep an eye out for a follow-up eblast with more details as we get closer to the transition date.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
