Fairfax Centennial Alumni Football Game—go Lions!

Dear friends and partners,

The new semester is in full swing at LAUSD—with kids learning new things, families attending back-to-school nights, and exciting celebrations like the 100th anniversary of BD4’s Fairfax High! I was thrilled to join in the Centennial festivities to commemorate this historic campus and discuss its upcoming nearly $150 million major modernization—made possible by LAUSD’s facilities bond dollars.

Our bond dollars have also ensured that all district classrooms are equipped with air conditioning—but with temperatures at record highs and an excessive heat warning in place for LA County, we continue to employ heat mitigation strategies this week to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, and to invest in new air conditioning units, campus greening projects, and shading for outdoor areas to keep campuses cool in the long term.

Our work continues to drive progress toward the changes we want to see in the District and build a better future for all our kids.

Onward,

It has been a busy few weeks for the BD4 team, joining the Region West Principals' Meeting, preparing for our upcoming Service Day at Paul Revere MS, and visiting classrooms at Reseda HS, Newcastle ES, Grey HS, Portola MS, as well as celebrating Fairfax's Centennial and LAUSD's Rookie Teachers of the Year at a Dodger Game!
In the Spotlight: A Garden Grove teacher celebrates 25 years at LAUSD!
Ayelen Pinotti is one of Garden Grove Elementary's 5th grade teachers. Ayelen was born and raised in Cordoba, Argentina, and has been working for LAUSD for 25 years! After graduating from California Lutheran University, she began her career as a teacher’s assistant, then as a special education assistant, and eventually became a teacher. Ayelen’s hobbies include camping, hiking, and watching her sons play sports. She enjoys being outdoors. A fun fact about Ayelen is that she started doing MMA when she was 2 ½ years old. When she got older, she eventually became a women’s self-defense and kickboxing instructor.
