Our son Scott is in his second year at the University of Vermont, playing for their soccer team and studying business. He is only an hour away from the mountain town of Stowe, famous for its skiing, maple syrup, apple cider and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. Here he is in front of one of the many covered bridges in Vermont - a beautiful state!

Invited Back To Breckenridge Invited Back To Breckenridge
i am very excited to announce that I have been invited back to Breckenridge, CO as their Guest Artist in 2012! I spent two weeks in November last year as their Artist in Rtesidence and stayed in the historic Tin Shop shown above, with studio space on the ground floor and living quarters on the second floor. It was wonderful to have time to paint, interact with the public and host a Watercolor Batik Workshop. With over 60 applicants and only 10 artists invited each year, I am truly honored to be able to participate again. To see more about my visit last year check out my blog.

Creative Journey - Use that SpongeNew Paints & New Colors
Holly and Pears is painted in a more traditional way using thin washes of watercolor on dry paper instead of my favorite wet-on-wet. I did, however, start by wetting the paper and used a natural sea sponge dipped in paint for to create the background. I first used some Rose Madder and then cleaned the sponge before dipping into some Hooker's Green - did not want the complementary colors to mix and create mud! Sometimes it is nice to stray a bit from your normal style and try some different techniques!
