Encouraging Civic Engagement

A big thanks to all of the student volunteers who helped us talk about the many ways Civitas promotes Active Citizenship at two events held at the MO History Museum this past weekend, Civic Engagement on Friday and Dance the Vote! on Saturday. Hearing directly from students is the best way to encourage other teens to engage in what Civitas offers!

Reece Ellis continues "Campaign 2024" tomorrow evening via Zoom. Sign up now!
Even if you were unable to attend the Civitas Kick-Off event with political expert, Reece, on September 7, you are welcome to sign up for a continuation of his fascinating presentation via Zoom tomorrow (Wed., Sept 8) evening. Reece will review highlights from his first session and continue sharing his dynamic slides that include a variety of polls, predictions, historical similarities, quotes, campaigning, candidate information and more. He loves to answer your questions, too, so there will be plenty of opportunity to ask any you have. Since the presidential debate occurred after September 7, that will be a new topic to add to the list of what Reece will cover with humor and enthusiasm.

Attention High School teacher sponsors and student leaders of Model UN groups--let Civitas know soon if you are planning to participate in Model UN this fall.
Country delegates voting at Session C last fall.
A detailed email about the Civitas High School Model United Nations program for this fall was recently sent to teacher sponsors and student leaders. If you did not hear from us or would like to be added to our list, please email Stephanie at gavinstephanie89@gmail.com. Students who are interested in participating in Model UN but don't know of a group at their school can attend all events on their own. Civitas can also help get a group started at your school.
The first important date to plan for is the Country Draft on Saturday, October 5 from 10:00 am until noon.
Click here to sign up for the Country Draft. Students should know which Model UN session they are attending when they sign up. October 5 is just a little over two weeks away!
The three FALL High School MUN dates:
Saturday, November 23, Session A from 9:00 am until noon.
Saturday, November 23, Session B from 1:30 until 4:30 pm.
Saturday, December 14, Session C from 9:00 am until noon.
All fall High School Model UN events will be held at Browning Auditorium at Webster University. Any student can attend the Country Draft, although just one representative from a school is required to attend. We'll review the Civitas Model UN procedures and review helpful resources on the Civitas website on draft day, followed by a few rounds of trivia (with prizes) before dividing into the three separate sessions to draft for countries. Civitas will need to know which of the three sessions your school/school group plans to attend before you or other students sign up for the draft. Also, we are having an optional Resolution Writing workshop/brainstorming session on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 am until noon at Crossroads School.
