Homecoming is this weekend — see you at Party So Dear!

News and Announcements

  • President Wente sent a message to the campus community outlining the latest steps in academic and campus space improvements, including an update from Carter and Front Street Capital on plans for “The Grounds” on 100 acres of University-owned property adjacent to Allegacy Stadium, Couch Ballpark and the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
  • Homecoming is this weekend: Students on the Reynolda Campus will see increased visitors to campus and traffic this weekend for Homecoming. Students are invited to attend Party So Dear on Friday afternoon on the Mag Quad; live music from Sol Fusion begins at 4:30 p.m.
  • New chaplains announced: University Chaplain Rev. Chris Donald announced the hiring of three new chaplains: Akshay Gupta, Assistant Chaplain for Hindu Life and Religious Engagement; Imran Haq, Assistant Chaplain for Muslim Life; and Stephanie Marshall, Assistant Chaplain for Jewish Life.
  • Student accounts have been charged $1,379 for our Student Blue health insurance program for all students who have not submitted a waiver. If you do NOT need our health insurance, you must go through the waiver process ASAP. Waivers are due Sept. 15.
    • If you do want to be enrolled in our Student Blue health insurance program, you do not need to take any action, as you will be auto-enrolled on Sept. 15.
  • Please register your student events in The Link: Each Friday, we compile a Next Week at Wake: Student Edition email. Events are pulled from The Link and the Events calendar. If you are hosting an event, please add it to The Link so it will be added to Next Week at Wake.
    • Important: be sure to include the following in the description field on The Link (even if you had entered the same info in other fields, we use the description field for Next week): Host organization or department; intended audience: (e.g., Polo Hall residents, Law students, etc.); location (building and room number); type of event (e.g., speaker, workshop, film, concert, meeting, etc.); event details/other pertinent info (e.g., is registration required?)
  • From University Police: We want to remind all students — across all campuses and programs — to be safe while you exercise. It is best to walk/run facing traffic. U.S. culture teaches us to “stay to the right,” but the opposite is true when walking on a street, as you want to be able to see what’s coming towards you. This is especially important if you are wearing headphones and can’t hear oncoming vehicles. And if you walk/run at dawn, dusk, or after dark, wear light-colored or reflective clothing.

Academics

  • Undergraduates in the Class of 2025/graduating seniors: Did you know you must apply to graduate? An Application for Program Completion must be submitted through Workday by October 1 for May graduation. Watch this video on how to apply.

Voting in the 2024 Election

  • Deacs Decide is happy to provide TurboVote — a digital tool that powers greater voter access and expands participation in elections.
  • Check your voter registration status online.
  • Sept. 17: National Voter Registration Day. Voter registration will be available from noon-6 p.m. in the Tribble Courtyard.
  • Oct. 11: voter registration deadline for
    • individuals wishing to vote in person on Election Day in North Carolina
    • individuals who wish to request an absentee ballot in North Carolina
  • If you wish to vote by absentee ballot in your home state: regulations vary by state; reach out to your local board of elections to get information on your state and county’s process and deadlines.
