Backpacks for Back-to-School

Fall is here, which means back to school, pumpkin ghouls, and learning what's cool! Our amazing Resident Coordinator, Faye, is seasoning up this autumn with her incredible dedication and care for our residents. She partnered with Family Giving Tree  to deliver a handful of backpacks to our families at Monroe Commons.

These backpacks were stuffed with goodies like headphones, water bottles, notepads, and more. Thanks to Faye and Family Giving Tree, our residents now have everything they need for a great school year!

Ensuring equal access to education and resources is crucial, particularly for our families with developmental disabilities. These supplies are more than just tools; they are a significant step towards supporting an environment where learning and growth are accessible to all. Faye's initiative exemplifies how targeted support and strong community partnerships can significantly impact our community.

Through such collaborative efforts, we continue to make a profound difference in the lives of those we serve. Let's maintain this momentum and make this school year an exceptional one for all our residents!

Rudy’s Fresh Start in San Jose

“We had rats and mice in the house, big holes in the ground, you name it, we had it—raccoons," Rudy recalled about his previous apartment in San Francisco. Despite his love for the city's unique ambiance and fog, the dire conditions forced him to seek healthier accommodations. Finding an affordable two-bedroom apartment to share with his Supportive Living Services (SLS) provider was critical but also challenging due to his financial constraints.

During his search, Rudy connected with Aria, one of our Housing Coordinators at Housing Choices. "She's an angel," he said with gratitude. "She found us this place." Aria successfully navigated the complex housing market, securing a new two-bedroom apartment for Rudy at Kelsey Ayer Station in downtown San Jose.

Rudy's new home meets more than his basic needs; it reflects his personal interests. The spacious layout allows him to display his Batman collection. A large closet holds all his superhero gear, and ample room to showcase his favorite movies, making the space truly his own.

To keep a piece of San Francisco with him, Rudy placed a painting of the city in his living room, merging his past and present in a gesture of continuity and new beginnings.

This transition highlights the importance of affordable housing projects, ensuring our community members do not endure poor living conditions. “
