President’s Message

Though the thermometer remains in the hot zone, Fall is coming as the September events lead to our Season Closer on Saturday October 5th at Pickering Glen.  Be sure to register – we’d love to see everyone at this event to celebrate our 2024 Season.

Whether for fun, or in competition, our 2024 calendar has been a busy one.  Congratulations to the winners of our GTA Chapter Championship which took place on August 10th at Upper Unionville Golf Club (read on below for more information and a Link to some pictures of the event).

The mighty “red and white” GTA team is off to the Border Cup on September 7-8th to battle our LPGA Amateurs sisters from the Detroit Chapter on Tarandowah Golf Club near London, Ontario – good luck girls!  Have fun and play well.

Members have been asking how they may provide feedback. As in the past, we will be releasing a survey to members to help identify what’s working and where we have challenges. The survey will provide valuable information for our 2025 planning – its value is dependent on hearing from all our membership, so please take the time to submit your views.

Previously I highlighted an upcoming opportunity to raise funds through participation in the Golf Ontario 1000 Ball Challenge.  This goal of this fundraising campaign is to bring more people to golf than ever before by providing financial support to key areas of the game including growing programming for Girls and Women, Indigenous, Adaptive and Youth Golf - GOLF FOR ALL.  Of the sponsorship funds raised by a GTA Chapter member or team, 50% is directed through Golf Ontario to a golf program of your choice with the remaining 50% donated to the GTA Chapter to support its programs and projects.  The event will take place on September 28th at 1100 a.m. at the iRange Toronto, 7855 Finch Ave West, Brampton ON.

I have signed up - are you up for the challenge?  Please reach out to me at President if you are interested in being part of a GTA team or perhaps you will support the cause as a single or your own team!

What’s Next?

  • Register
  • Donate $20: Every $20 donation enters you into Golf Ontario raffle.
  • Win Big: One lucky donor will take home 1,000 TaylorMade TP5/x golf balls!
  • Support a Cause: Your donation of $20 or more is tax-deductible and directly supports a team or individual taking on the 1000 Ball Challenge

The Border Cup

Urgent - Player Needed!

They’re off!  Our GTA team is donning their Canada colours as they prepare to meet our Detroit Chapter sisters on Tarandowah Golf Club near London, Ontario this coming weekend September 7-8th.  Unfortunately, one member has had to cancel so we are in need of another player to complete our team of 20.  Please contact our Director Golf Events today to join the team. Good luck and have fun!

Our Membership

Our membership continues to grow. We have now welcomed 113 new or returning members to bring our total Chapter membership to 265! Thank you all for promoting the Association and referring your friends to join. This has been an amazing year of growth for new members, but we have still not seen some of you out on the course. There is still time to join in on a game at one of the Leagues or our weekend events, including our Season Closer. Remember there is still a lot of golf to get in before it is too cold to hold a club or the courses close…c’mon out!

Welcome to our latest members…

Many thanks to all our current members who continue to promote the Chapter and refer their friends to join us.

Calendar of Events

Upcoming Weekend event - Springfield Golf and Country Club

Come join member Pam who has organized our final September weekend event at Springfield Golf and Country Club. Springfield is a magnificent semi-private 18-hole golf club located in the south end of Guelph. Often likened to a Floridian style course, Springfield is uniquely challenging to the experienced golfer and yet very playable for the average golfer…a very accessible course for those that like to walk.  The event will take place on Saturday September 21st. Cost for a member is $60 walking, $82 shared power cart and for guests $70 walking and $90 shared power cart. Register through the Event Portal (closes Monday, September 9th at 9:00 pm).  We have a maximum field of 28 players.

Season Closer - Pickering Glen Golf Club

This is it! Don’t miss our final registered event on Saturday October 5th as we celebrate the close of our 2024 GTA Season with our members. Pickering Glen Golf Club (formerly Glen Cedars Golf Club) is a mature, traditional parkland-style 18-hole course that golfers of all abilities enjoy. There will be lots of on course games and a fun foursome challenge. Afterwards, plan to join in for a delicious meal and an opportunity to share with your fellow members the successes of our 2024 season.  The cost is only $160 which includes golf, cart, meal & on course games.  No Handicap Index? – no problem, it’s not a requirement. Play will begin at 1:00 pm with split tee times. Register through the Event Portal (closes Friday, September 27th at 11:00 pm).

League Play

League play in our 7 groups is ever popular. Be sure to thank the coordinators and volunteers who are making it happen.

Match Play

The Semi-final round is completed. Congratulations to Alison M. who won the West pod and to Mary C., the winner of the East pod. The two will face off sometime in the upcoming month to determine this year’s Match Play League Champion. Good luck ladies!

GTA Chapter Championship - Results

Our annual Chapter Championship was held on August 10th at Upper Unionville Golf Club in Markham. We had 25 women competing in 3 Flights and 6 golfers who joined us for a recreational round of golf. It was a challenging day on the course as our competitors had to battle a 2 club” wind and very wet fairways.

Congratulations to all competitors and especially our first timers, as it takes great courage to put your skills and knowledge on the line in your first competition.

A special thank you to all our volunteers who help make our events run smoothly. A big shout out to Deb K. who managed our registration table and acted as our official photographer as well as Alison M. who helped with scoring. And of course, many thanks to Bev H. who for all of her work as Tournament coordinator.  Visit this link to view some pictures from the day.

Congratulations to our winners! Each champion received a specially designed embroidered LPGA Amateurs head-cover and 2nd place golfers received a Golf town gift card.
