Intuity Media Lab, presented by Sandra Brügmann

The IDZ Member of the Month for September 2024 is the innovation and development partner Intuity Media Lab, presented by Sandra Brügmann.

Since 2002, Intuity has been combining strategy, design, science, and technology to accelerate the development of innovative products and services for startups and corporations – from concept to implementation. Their approach leverages expertise in digital business models, UX design, and software-hardware technologies to develop business opportunities and competitive advantages.

Sandra Brügmann leads the Hamburg office, managing the Digital Experiences division. Since June 2023, her experienced multidisciplinary team has successfully collaborated with renowned clients. Their passion lies in the conception, design, and development of digital products and services that excel in usability and aesthetics.

UX Design Awards – Autumn 2024
And the Winners are …

The winners of the UX Design Awards - Autumn 2024 have been announced. Gold goes to Benedikt Herzau from HTW Berlin for his project “NOISE. Interactive Audiovisual Design.” Additionally, the jury awarded eight professional entries and five "New Talent" solutions. The Public Choice Award went to the DB Rad+ “Goal Fever Challenge 2024“ by Deutsche Bahn, designed by Scholz & Volkmer GmbH. You can view the winning and nominated projects in the online exhibition on the UX Design Awards website.

German Ecodesign Award
Exhibition, Exhibition, Exhibition!

It's that time again: On 16 and 17 September, the jury of the German Ecodesign Award will review around 140 projects at Metropolenhaus Berlin and select the 2024 nominees. This exhibition, specially arranged for the jury session, will be opened to interested visitors on 19 September with a festive vernissage. Subsequently, from 20 to 24 September, you will have the unique opportunity to view all the competition entries admitted to the jury session.

International Design Forum
on 25 September at InnoTrans

The International Design Forum 2024 will take place at InnoTrans, the leading global trade fair for transport and mobility. The event will focus on innovative interior concepts for public transport in the areas of CITY (urban mobility) and REGION (regional mobility).

Representatives from renowned companies and design studios, including Alstom, büro+staubach, Deutsche Bahn, Hitachi, Priestman Goode, and many more, will present pioneering ideas. The forum invites trade fair visitors and experts from design, research, and industry to discuss the latest developments in public transport. MEKB GmbH x German Ecodesign Award
Sustainability Exhibition in Münster

The German Ecodesign Award on the move: MEKB GmbH – the marketing company of nationwide train station shopping centers, presents an interactive sustainability exhibition titled “Green up your life.” It will open at Münster Central Station from 21 September to 6 October. We are pleased that the exhibits showcased are all former nominees and winners of the German Ecodesign Award. They exemplify eight "Big Points" of sustainable consumption. Complementary panels provide visitors with additional information and useful everyday tips. The exhibition was designed by our member Schömann Corporate.

Alstom
Four-Billion Contract for S-Bahn Cologne

Alstom has won a contract worth over 4 billion euros for the delivery and maintenance of 90 S-Bahn trains for Cologne. The contract includes the new Adessia Stream trains and a 34-year maintenance agreement, making it one of the largest orders for urban mobility solutions in Germany. The train concept focuses on innovation, accessibility, ease of maintenance, and lifecycle optimization.

Archimedes Exhibitions GmbH Mobile Futurium
Archimedes Exhibitions GmbH has recently designed and produced the Mobile Futurium, now on tour to enable students to explore tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities interactively. A special highlight is the Demowotchi, a playful democracy training based on the Tamagotchi principle, encouraging children to experience opinion-forming, tolerance, and respect in a fun way.

Podcast “about bauhaus” – Second Season

Even over 100 years after its founding, the Bauhaus continues to inspire and move people. As a place for new ideas and design, for contradictions and opposites, the legendary art school can still surprise us today. The podcast “about bauhaus” from the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung questions the familiar and discovers new aspects of the famous avant-garde school. With illustrious guests and scientific know-how, podcast host and art historian Adriana Kapsreiter sheds new light on the history and relevance of the Bauhaus in the second season.

Workshop at HOLITOPIA

Prof. Pelin Celik and Jana Picciani will offer a workshop on 20 September as part of HOLITOPIA. Participants will be guided through playful methods like „Purpose Prototyping” and „Haptic Recording” to foster self-discovery, critical thinking, and future thinking. The workshop will conclude with „Social Dreaming,” collaboratively exploring a visionary future.

Mentoring and Career Coaching

Ulrike Meyer offers professional support for upcoming career changes and decision-making processes, such as transitioning from self-employment to employment and vice versa. Ulrike has been connecting and fostering (design) talents for many years, and her client list reads like a who’s who of German agencies and creatives. With her extensive experience, she can analyze situations and opportunities very well, making her a professional counterpart and competent conversation partner for the next career steps.

ICONIC Awards for Wayfinding Systems

Moniteurs received two awards at the ICONIC AWARDS! The wayfinding system for the Continental headquarters, designed by Henn Architekten, impressed the jury. The wayfinding system for the Art Hall in Prague was even honored with the highest award, ‘Best of Best.’

German Innovation Award 2024

The German Design Council has awarded Schünemann Design, together with FASTPART Kunststofftechnik and Jens Heinrich, the German Innovation Award 2024. The award-winning AK-PMH3 Medical Mouse by CHERRY offers optimized ergonomics and meets the highest hygiene standards, making it ideal for use in hospitals and the food industry.

Smyrna Design at the Küchenmeile Trade Fair
On 24 September, Pürlen Karaçam, CEO of Smyrna, will speak at the Küchenmeile in Löhne. Together with Barbara Bosse, she will participate in the panel “Kitchen Futures – Design Trends and Kitchen Layouts 2030.” Smyrna is a forward-thinking design company that creates smart and sustainable furniture. The “All-in-One Kitchen,” which will be discussed at the panel, was nominated for the UX Design Awards last year.

WirDesign
Employer of the Future

WirDesign has long been doing what others only talk about: flat hierarchies, team-oriented work, and trust instead of control. For this, the agency was awarded the highest rating of five stars in the large stern study “Germany’s Companies with a Future” 2024 (stern issue 36/24) and was recognized as an employer of the future for the second year in a row.

AOK with New Audio Branding

Alexander Wodrich’s agency why do birds has developed a comprehensive brand sound for AOK. This marks the first unified approach to audio branding for the health insurance company and is a significant addition to the corporate design update that took place last year.

Holitopia – Festival for Arts and Futures

From 20 to 22 September, the conference will feature lectures and workshops on future design, art, and architecture in connection with other topics such as AI, interactive games, democracy promotion, or climate change. This will not only provide exciting transdisciplinary knowledge inputs but also opportunities for experience exchange and networking.

“immer modern! Berlin und seine Straßen.”

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Berlin-Brandenburg Association of Architects and Engineers, the exhibition “Always Modern! Berlin and Its Streets. 200 Years of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Engineering for Berlin” will run from 5 September to 30 November. It will explore the challenges and possibilities that streets offer for our society. The exhibition on Unter den Linden Boulevard underscores the relevance of the topic and shows that politics recognizes the discourse around streets as a basis for a better future.

“Maurice de Vlaminck. Rebel of Modernism”

At the beginning of the 20th century, a group of artists shocked the public with a radical departure from previous artistic conventions. Known as “fauves” or “wild beasts,” these artists paved the way for modernism, led by Maurice de Vlaminck. From 14 September to 12 January 2025, the Museum Barberini will present “Maurice de Vlaminck. Rebel of Modernism,” the first retrospective in over 100 years dedicated to this Fauvist and influential artist of the French avant-garde at a German museum. This is an opportunity to discover the entire artistic oeuvre of this “rebel.”

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the former Tegel Airport, the exhibition “MATERIAL CULTURE BERLIN TXL 2024. A Building for the Future” will run from 7 September to 30 November. It will showcase architectural history and the transformation into an innovation site, answering the question: How do we build and produce for the future?

The Berlin Art Week is a festival week and the largest gathering of significant actors in the contemporary Berlin art scene. Design Matters 24

From 23 to 25 October, Design Matters will return in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since its first edition in 2015, the conference has earned great international renown and is now considered one of the most important design events in the world.

Designblok

Designblok, the Prague International Design Festival, is the largest exhibition of design and fashion in Central and Eastern Europe. It will take place from 2 to 6 October in the creative heart of the European continent. The theme is YOUTH.

Vitra Design Museum: Nike: Form Follows Motion

From 21 September to 4 May 2025, the Vitra Design Museum will present “Nike: Form Follows Motion,” the first comprehensive museum exhibition on Nike, the world’s largest sports brand. The exhibition will trace the rise of the company from a local start-up to a global phenomenon, focusing on Nike’s fascinating design history.
