New OLA Mentorship Webpage

Update

The Office of Learner Affairs (OLA) has launched a web page outlining the available programs housed by the office.

Operations of existing mentorship programs – including iLEAD and the Diversity Mentorship Programs – will be transitioning to the OLA. The Office of Inclusion & Diversity (OID) will continue to be an advisory support during this transition, along with being available as a resource to all program participants.

1. Trans and Gender-Diverse (TGD) Game Night

Closing Mon Sept 16

As part of U of T Queer Orientation, the TGD Gathering Committee will be hosting a social on September 24, filled with games, connections to resources, and more!

All gender-diverse, gender-questioning, non-binary, transgender, or Two-Spirit individuals that are part of Temerty Medicine are invited to register.

2. Info Session: Intercultural Learning Program

Tues Sept 10 & Wed Sept 11

The Centre for International Experience is hosting two info sessions for The Intercultural Learning Program to enhance intercultural awareness and global citizenship, and provide opportunities to engage in discussion with peers who share enthusiasm for personal growth and professional development.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

3. Introduction to the new Socio-Demographic Data Guide for Program Evaluation

From the Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS), The Division of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (VPRI) is launching a workshop to facilitate the collection and use of socio-demographic data. The Data Guide is intended to support planning and evaluation of programs that aim to improve or assess commitments to EDI in research and innovation environments.

4. Indian Horse Screening

Mon Sept 16

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and Innis College are hosting a screening of the award-winning film, Indian Horse (2017) – an adaptation of Ojibway writer Richard Wagamese’s novel, allowing attendees to experience community, culture, and connection.

A hand drum song, traditional opening, and post-screening panel discussion will also be hosted at the event.

5. Annual Education Research Rounds on Anti-Racism and Equity

Tues Sept 17

This event, from 12:00 – 1:00PM on Zoom, will be a talk exploring the nature of toxic workplace culture, the barriers and challenges to change, how one can be an agent for change and/or ally in those spaces and both individual and personal approaches to challenging and disrupting a toxic culture.

6. Unveiling the New Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines 3.0: Unlocking Inclusive Learning

Tues Sept 17

The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation is hosting a session introducing the new iteration of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines aimed at addressing critical barriers rooted in biases and systems of exclusion.

7. Seeds of Change Speakers' Series

Wed Sept 18

The Centre for Wise Practices in Indigenous Health is launching a speaker series spotlighting the Indigenous artists and curators from the Seeds of Change Gallery at Women’s College Hospital. Discussions will explore the cross section of art and healing and the importance of cultural expression upon well-being.

8. MED DMP Mentee Applications

The Office of Learner Affairs welcomes undergraduate medical students and first year residents to apply to become mentees in the Diversity Mentorship Program for medical education.

The program matches faculty physicians and researchers with MD and MD/PhD students as well as first year residents who are members of underrepresented or marginalized groups.

9. Orange Shirt and Pin Sales

Tues Sept 24

Orange Shirt and Pin Sales for Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will take place on September 24 from 11:30am – 2:00pm in the Medical Sciences Building (across from the Starbucks).

Limited quantities will be made available. Shirts are available for $20.00 and Pins will be sold for $10.00. Only cash will be accepted.

All proceeds from the sales will be donated.

Orange Shirt Day / National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The two days of recognition—one Indigenous-led and the other established by the federal government—call for remembrance, reflection, and action around the history and devastating legacy of residential schools on Indigenous Peoples and communities.
