For undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students:
Here’s what WFU should know this week.

Thursday, September 26, 2024

A rainbow was seen over campus on September 20.

News and Announcements

  • October 7 community update
    • President Susan R. Wente and Provost Michele Gillespie shared a message with the campus community about Oct. 7 events that emphasized our ability to come together to support one another.
    • Events that day will include Interfaith Prayers for Peace from 11 a.m.-1 p.m on the Manchester Quad and a Community Reflection Event at 4:45 p.m. on the front steps of Wait Chapel. At both events, students, faculty and staff are invited to pause, reflect, and write a prayer or light a candle for peace. At the Community Reflection event, members of the Wake Forest community will offer prayers and readings for peace.
    • The message also announced that Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi’s campus lecture on Oct. 7 will not take place.
  • Change in location for Sept. 27 Mobile Flu Clinic — Due to rain, Friday’s flu shots will take place in Benson, 2nd floor rotunda, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (free, no appointment necessary).
  • Family Weekend weather-related update — Weather predictions indicate minimal impact in Winston-Salem, aside from some heavy rain on Friday. The Deacon Family Festival (1-6 p.m. Friday) has been moved indoors to the 4th floor of Benson University Center. The Family Weekend Check-in will take place on the 3rd floor of Benson (10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday). Food trucks will be available for families to purchase food between 1 and 6 p.m. Friday in the ZSR Library Circle (adjacent to Benson).
  • Dr. Shea invites us to embrace “Show Humanitate” — In a message posted earlier today, Dr. Shea called for all Wake Foresters to embrace “Show Humanitate.” This powerful call to action encourages us to embody our motto, Pro Humanitate, by fostering kindness, empathy, and understanding within our community. Dr. Shea emphasizes the importance of engaging with differing perspectives and prioritizing respect in our interactions, and she asks us to come together to make a meaningful impact on our campus and beyond by committing to this shared vision.

We encourage you to explore ways to Show Humanitate by educating yourself on important issues and engaging with others at various events focused on these topics by visiting showhumanitate.wfu.edu. Read Dr. Shea’s entire message here.
  • Undergraduates: Complete the survey to win prizes — First-year students were sent a 14-question survey to gain insights into their experiences at Wake Forest. The responses will help us better understand the needs of our newest Deacs. Class of 2028, please check your Wake Forest email and complete the survey by Oct. 5. Participants can win one of three incentives: a $50 Deacon Dining card, a private study space during finals, or two pregame sideline passes for an upcoming football game.
  • ConsentCon call for proposals — ConsentCon 2025 will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and will engage students, faculty and staff in a community conversation about consent in pursuit of a campus free of interpersonal violence. Event organizers are seeking proposals, due by Oct. 16, that continue dynamic and participatory learning and deepen participants' understanding and practice of consent.
