MAHC & MaineHousing Development Process Survey - Need Your Input

Production of new housing at the speed and scale needed in our state is not something that can be achieved without the joint efforts of numerous agencies, organizations, and individuals. Among the many participants in this great effort, MaineHousing recognizes that our partnership with developers is instrumental. As one of those key partners, and in our pursuit of continuous program improvement, MaineHousing would like feedback about your experience working with our Development department. This survey seeks your perspective on the various phases and aspects of our development programs and processes, on which you will be asked to rate, rank, or provide open-ended commentary. Please consider the questions carefully, then provide your frank and honest opinions. Responses are anonymous beyond specific project information you may choose to share. Take survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/development_process_ME

Statewide & Regional Housing Production Goals Report - Read more

MAHC was pleased to sit on the committee supporting the development of this report that comes as a follow up to the 2023 Housing Needs Study that found Maine needs 84,000 new homes by 2030. MAHC applauds the work of the State in completing this research and goal setting. MAHC will continue to advocate for a deeper articulation of the affordability of the housing that's needed to meet Maine's most vulnerable populations, and workforce. MAHC's advocacy in 2025 will focus on increasing housing supply in Maine to address our state's housing affordability crisis. Our policy priorities include cutting the red tape of land use and permitting; expanding the state historic tax credit; and $100 million for building affordable housing.

10/8 - Portland ReCode Vote Delayed - City Redrafting to Find a Compromise Affordable Housing Height Bonus - City Taking Comments

The Planning Board vote on ReCode has been tabled until October 8. Staff are working on a potential compromise to put an affordable height bonus back in for consideration, but this doesn't reinstate the prior height bonus. This means prior affordable housing projects wouldn't have worked, and future ones are at risk. If you're a Portland business or developing projects, the City is sharing that, "now is the time to provide any final comments on ReCode!"  The City Council will hold their first workshop on ReCode on September 30, and the Planning Board will have a hearing on October 8.  Learn more.
