From protecting Earth against collisions with space objects to designing infrastructure for future Moon habitats, the University of Maryland (UMD) has a rich track record of involvement in space engineering and research. A new center established at the Department of Aerospace Engineering will help consolidate those activities and open up new avenues for collaboration.
The Aerospace Control and Guidance Systems Committee (ACGSC) recognized Assistant Professor Umberto Saetti for his outstanding contributions to the development of a dynamic system framework for time-periodic, multi-domain systems representative of the coupled flight dynamics, aeromechanics, and aeroacoustics of rotary- and flapping-wing vehicles.
The department is looking for new faculty with expertise in space-related research, particularly in the field of space robotics and/or human factors as it relates to spaceflight. LEARN MORE & APPLY.
Rising senior Daniel Grammer was awarded a 2024 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) David and Catherine Thompson Space Technology Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship supports outstanding students studying a field to enter the astronautics industry.
Sophomore Jack Szyprowski took his first-place win at the SAMPE Regional Additive Manufacturing Symposium with his research poster, “Variable Stiffness 3D Printed Structured Fabrics Activated by a Pressure Field.”
As we celebrate 75 years of Aerospace Engineering at Maryland, that also means celebrating our amazing alumni! We would love to hear your memories, learn what you've been up to,
and share your story.
