140th birthday celebration planned at Former Governors’ Manson

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site, Bismarck, is celebrating the mansion’s 140th birthday on Friday, Oct. 18, 1-3 p.m. with a family friendly, Victorian-themed birthday party.

Join us for tea and treats, a craft project, and historic lawn games throughout the afternoon. At 2 p.m., enjoy story time and songs with Kittyko.

Bismarck businessman Asa Fisher and his wife, Adelaide, along with his stepdaughter, Lilian, and his mother, Betsy, moved into the mansion when construction was completed in October 1884. Asa and Adelaide lived in the home until 1893 when they sold it to the State of North Dakota for use as the executive mansion.

The Former Governors’ Mansion, located at 320 E. Ave. B, Bismarck, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Admission is free. The Former Governors’ Mansion is open 1-5 p.m. the second combined Friday and Saturday of each month or by appointment. For more information, contact Site Supervisor Johnathan Campbell, 701.328.9528 or shsfgm@nd.gov. Additional upcoming educational programs sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota can be found at history.nd.gov/events.
