Special Safety Message for Pick-up and Drop-off
Safety is essential as we continue into the 2024-2025 school year at Gardner. This is a special reminder to our parents that they should only use the designated area on pick-up and drop-off driving duty. The area to pull up, drop off, or pick up is along the curb, past the fire hydrant next to the swings. This area is very safe because students can walk directly to or from the vehicle onto or from the main campus without navigating the parking lot on foot.

Tumtum and Mazama Seize the Day
|
|
We value play here at Gardner and Field Days in the fall and spring are times when kids and staff have a blast together! Our Tumtum and Mazama students set out to seize the day last Tuesday, the 17th. The traditional Field Day activities did not disappoint! Play is a valuable and powerful tool for learning and development.

Immunization Requirements
|
|
Each year, our school is required to confirm the immunization status of our students and to follow Washington State law and the rules from the Department of Health regarding mandatory childhood vaccinations. You can find all the required immunizations and resources at the Department of Health website.
Lisa Linderman will reach out to your family if the state database shows any gaps in your student's immunization records and we don't have the necessary proof of immunization status or Certificates of Exemption on file. Any specific questions about your child and their vaccination schedule should start with your doctor, and Lisa can provide the paperwork requirements for school compliance.

SRP - Standard Response Protocol:
a new approach to school safety
We know that safety is a top concern for parents, and Gardner is committed to ensuring the safety of our students and community members on our campus. As part of our pursuit of continuous improvement in our safety and security measures, we have joined ESD 112 in implementing the Standard Response Protocol. This initiative is designed to introduce standard terms and practices for emergency actions and responses across schools, districts, emergency response personnel, and the public, to ensure a cohesive and efficient response to crisis situations if and when they arise.
Gardner is participating in this initiative along with 27 school districts and one other private school across the SW Washington area. Staff has participated in online forums and in-person sessions through the Regional School Safety Center since February 7th, including the August 2024 School Safety Summit, and continue to attend monthly SRP Implementation Zoom calls to further build relationships with local schools and responders, and to help adapt the SRP to Gardner's needs.
As required by Washington State Law, Gardner School conducts monthly safety drills, and the SRP now guides the terminology we use and the actions we take. Our first drill is coming up on Tuesday, September 24th, and will be an "Evacuate"; this protocol is used for situations such as fires or gas leaks, and has sometimes been called a "Fire Drill" or "Evacuation" drill. In October, we will be participating in the Great Shake Out 2024, which raises awareness of earthquake preparedness. That drill will be October 17th, and will be first a "Shelter" protocol, followed by "Evacuate".
If you have any questions about the SRP or our monthly safety drills, please contact Lisa Linderman, Director of Campus Operations, at llinderman@gardnerschool.org.
