Teacher workshop to implement National History Day
FARGO, N.D. – The State Historical Society of North Dakota has partnered with Minnesota Historical Society to offer a free teacher workshop, “National History Day in a Nutshell,” Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Livingston Lord Library at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
National History Day puts the power of history into the hands of almost half a million students across the country each year. Students investigate a historical topic they’re interested in related to an annual theme, conduct in-depth research, and present the information in a variety of formats. Students have the opportunity to participate in a progressive contest cycle, culminating in a national competition at the University of Maryland College Park.
Attendees will learn about the overall framework for the program and benefits for their students. The workshop will deep dive into sample projects, research resources, the annual theme, and next steps to bring National History Day to students. Teachers will leave with a variety of classroom-ready tools to implement in their schools.
Register for the workshop by Tuesday, Oct. 1 at forms.gle/wzeyNGCYhoJxktiCA. Space is limited for this free workshop. For more information, contact North Dakota National History Day coordinator Madison Milbrath at mrmilbrath@nd.gov or Minnesota National History Day event coordinator Cathy Richter at cathy.richter@mnhs.org.
