From Rev. CarolSeeking Peace |

This Sunday marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day of Peace established by the United Nations in 1981. They write: “The International Day of Peace has always been a time to lay down weapons and observe ceasefires. But it now must also be a time for people to see each other’s humanity. Our survival as a global community depends on that.”
More and more people are waking up to the fact that Jesus came to teach a way of peace in the midst of violence. Hildegard Von Bingen whose feast we observed at the Wednesday Eucharist knew this, and she centered much of her ministry around finding peace through the practices of virtue, healing, music, and that wonderful word she coined, “Veriditas” living green and growing toward the light of God.
Those of you who have actively oriented yourselves toward peace know that it is much easier to aspire to than to attain. One of my very best friends in young adulthood, the late children’s book illustrator Martha Weston, was famous for saying that she’d never encountered more conflict than during her days in the Peace Movement!
On Sunday, we will search the scriptures for clues to living peacefully. It is key to restoring our bruised earth and our bruised souls.
See you Sunday! Carol+ |

This Sunday’s anthem, “Let us Have Peace” was composed by Ernest Ball, a songwriter and balladeer whose most famous song was “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” He wrote “Let us Have Peace” right after World War I. Musically, it compares the lilting tones of peace and grief with the strident tempo of war. |
