Movie Deep Dive, Coherence.

with Movie Critic, Scott Phillips. forbes.com/sites/scottphillips/
Join us on Friday, March 21st 10am, for a screening and discussion of 2014 film, Coherence. In this mind-bending sci-fi thriller, 8 friends at a dinner party start experiencing strange and mysterious events on the night a comet is passing close to Earth. Coherence is a 2013 American science fiction psychological thriller film written and directed by James Ward Byrkit in his directorial debut. The film had its world debut on September 19, 2013, at Fantastic Fest and stars Emily Foxler as a woman who must deal with strange occurrences following the close passing of a comet.  Byrkit came up with the idea for Coherence after deciding that he wanted to test the idea of shooting a film "without a crew and without a script". Watch the trailer here.

  • Movie Screening: 10AM at OLLI at Emory (Optional, for those who want to watch with fellow OLLI members)
  • Discussion: 12:00 PM in the classroom or via Zoom. Click to register.

What’s Up with Greenland?

Instructor: Jeff Milsteen
Monday, April 14, 2025 - 10:00AM - 11:30AM

Greenland, the largest island in the world, is a mostly uninhabited place covered by an ice sheet that is more than a mile thick. It sits atop North America and mostly lies inside the Arctic Circle. And suddenly, everyone wants a piece of it. Denmark wants to control it, Donald Trump wants to buy it, China wants to mine it and Russia would love to control the shipping routes around it. Most of the 50,000 Greenlanders who actually live there simply want their independence. Why is this frozen, mostly barren land suddenly in such demand?

Join Jeff Milsteen for a look at the fascinating history and precarious future of this ice-covered island. Click here to register.
