Dear Friends,

THANK YOU for your help searching for a space. Many of you have already heard our big news, seen pics on social media or even shipped us supplies! If you haven’t yet heard … (drumroll please) …. this month we moved into a beautiful learning space in the heart of the Town!

Closing our office during the pandemic forced us (and many) into what felt like a long transitional time. Our creative little org used this time to reimagine how (and where) literacy learning happens, and have grown leaps and bounds as a result. This milestone offers us an opportunity to feel rooted once again in our community while also continuing our online, school and park-based services.

Our staff has been busy getting our new space ready for students and families- welcoming old friends and looking forward to new ones, filling it with our favorite books and plants, carving out a cozy reading nook, and making sure our “reading buddy” stuffies are feeling right at home.

We’re still hoping for a few small items on our wishlist - your contribution will be put to good use by our staff and students!

With our new commitment to monthly rent and utilities, we need your support more than ever. Sustaining donors - at any amount - give us reliable income we can count on so that we can focus our energy on supporting growing readers and the adults who teach and love them. Check out some of the projects we have going on below- we can’t wait to invite you to our new home!

In community,

Heading into harvest season, we can pair delicious fall foods with a simple word game that’s sure to keep you and your kids in stitches. Snack Madlibs helps students practice skills like tapping into all 5 senses, close observation, and identifying and producing adjectives, all while savoring a yummy snack.

Oakland Literacy Symposium 2022, Oct. 12-15

Our team is looking forward to learning in community with fellow educators, organizers and change makers at this year’s Literacy and Justice for All Oakland Literacy Symposium. There’s still time to register before this weekend’s in-person event!

We so appreciate the work our friends at the Oakland Literacy Coalition have done to fill this conference with top-notch presenters.

In between all of the fabulous virtual talks this week, check out the interview we did with OLC for their member spotlight back in April. We can’t wait to reconnect with the amazing folx from this organization at the symposium!
