The October Newsletter

Content Creation, Repurposing, Autumn Equinox, New Neighbors, First Frost, Real Food...and MORE!

Hi <<First Name>>,

In last month's newsletter, we talked about the opening of our online shop!

To celebrate the opening of our online store, email subscribers currently save 20% off all orders with the discount code "EMAIL20" - valid for one more week!

We also hinted that we were expanding to NEW farmers markets - and we're excited to share how we're growing and where you can connect with us!

Grab a coffee or a tea and get comfortable!  This month's newsletter is filled with a lot of updates from your favorite growing small farm and homestead...

As you know, there's been a lot of work going into content creation.  Reels on Instagram, Shorts on YouTube, and trying to learn how to grow the business.

Speaking of content creation, Rob is also in the process of making some changes to his podcast to reflect the changes that he is making in his life.
If you are working to grow a business with your podcast, this is the interview for you.

Grab a pen and paper. There are definitely a few nuggets you’ll want to jot down and implement in your journey.
For the past two years, Rob has been hosting a podcast called All Around Growth.  You can find it at (https://allaroundgrowth.buzzsprout.com).

The show eventually grew to focus on goal setting in 7 important areas of life.

Since joining the family business full-time in June of 2022, Rob has been trying to determine if his time, effort and energy on his hobby podcast might be better directed towards the growth and development of their family business.

Specifically, he wanted to know if he should focus on the promotion and development of the online store, which launched last month.

Last month, Rob worked with Erik K. Johnson, the Podcast Talent Coach, to learn how to dovetail his show with operations of the homestead.

You can find the podcast by searching for "All Around Growth" on any of your favorite podcast players or by simply clicking the link below.

In addition to content creation, we also had a prime opportunity for some repurposing...turning one man's trash into another man's treasure!

This summer, Rob had performed some side work for a local landscaper - who needed a small high tunnel removed to make room for some new equipment.

The owner of the landscape company called Rob and asked if we might have a use for it.  After taking a look at it with Cody, we decided to break it down and repurpose it here on the homestead!

While it hasn't been used in a few years, all parts are there and it will make a welcome addition to the +1 acre market garden that Cody actively manages.

Stay tuned for more updates on how we'll be using it in the future!
Speaking of Cody and the market gardens, this is a great opportunity to show off a photo demonstrating succession planting at it's finest.  Well done, Cody.
Beautiful.
Autumn seems to be everyone's favorite time of the year here on the homestead, and we decided to capture the first sunrise of Autumn and share it with you.
First sunrise of Autumn.  🍂
With the seasonal change upon us - it appears as though we've got some change with our neighbor situation as well!
Within a matter of days, a barn on the neighboring parcel that just sold was constructed.  It turns out that the owner of the +30 acre parcel due west of us (who we've never met) sold two 7.75 acre parcels up front, leaving the +15 acres in the back immediately next to our cabin and barn untouched (for now).

The individual who constructed the barn apparently bought BOTH parcels and was a bit selective about who he sold the neighboring parcel to...which is the parcel that is immediately adjacent to our own property.

We learned all of this from the new neighbors, who came back to introduce themselves and ask us if they could use our driveway to access their property until they are able to get their own driveway installed.

Of course we agreed...and it turns out they went out of their way to repair part of the apron of the driveway that had partially washed out earlier this year!

It looks like we've got a great neighbor in the making and are excited to invite them back for beers and a bonfire once they get settled in at their new home.
The seasons are changing and while a good killing frost is right around the corner, we captured a nice photo of the first official frost a couple weeks ago.
