Palo Alto Online Seeking to make the city a model in the global battle against climate change, the Palo Alto City Council adopted on Monday night an ambitious goal of making the city carbon neutral by 2030. The new target, which the council approved by unanimous vote, builds on the city's existing goal of cutting carbon emissions by 80% by 2030, with 1990 as the baseline. So far, Palo Alto has reduced its emissions by about 50.6%, thanks in large part to its switch in 2013 to a fully carbon-free electricity portfolio.
Canary Media In the face of competition from cheaper and cleaner sources of energy, coal mines and plants have been shutting down across the U.S. for the past decade. For towns living through this transition, it can be devastating. How communities weather these choppy seas depends on the level of support they receive, which varies from state to state. That’s one of the takeaways of a new report by RMI.
Inside Climate News Elected officials and energy company executives gathered early October in rural Oregon to mark the completion of Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility, a project that combines a wind farm, solar array and battery storage. This is the fourth and the largest project in the United States to combine those three renewable energy resources on the same site.
JD Supra - On October 5, the IRS issued six new public notices concerning upcoming energy guidance on many of the tax incentives included in the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Each notice includes a brief description of the provision as drafted in the legislation, providing some preliminary insights on how these credits may be interpreted.

Help Prospect SV Identify Projects in PG&E’s Service Area that Address Peak Demand and Increase Grid Stability
Prospect SV -
The PG&E Market Access Program (MAP) offers aggressive incentives for energy efficiency retrofit projects that reduce peak demand. The incentive is calculated on Total System Benefits, and is paid over the first year of operation to the aggregator - defined as anyone delivering the project such as the building owner, service provider, installer, or consultant.

ProspectSV is offering support to identify projects that can happen with the help of this incentive. They’re offering to co-host MAP Info Sessions for you and your local building community to get the word out. You can reach ProspectSV at marketaccess@prospectsv.org to schedule a special information session and/or to discuss any potential projects.

Shifts in Power: Ensuring the IRA, 2022 Energy Code, and California's Climate Policies Benefit the Tri-County Region
3C-REN - Join 3C-REN November 9th from 10:00am - 2:00pm in San Luis Obispo for a discussion on recent landmark Federal and State economic policies as well as record amounts of climate funding are revolutionizing the California energy and building sectors. To be at the forefront of this shift, this event will convene local energy efficiency and green building advocates to ensure that the region is prepared to benefit from these opportunities and address any challenges.

In this Forum, participants will explore how California’s climate funding and the new energy code will change the way buildings are constructed throughout the state. Attendees will establish a foundation for strategic coordination and partnership to successfully capture the financial incentives and resources provided through the Inflation Reduction Act and other opportunities. Learn more and register here!

Take Advantage of the Clean Mobility Options Pilot Program (CMO)
California Climate Investments - The Clean Mobility Options Pilot Program (CMO) provides funding for two types of projects: clean mobility projects and community transportation needs assessments. At least $21 million is available for the 2022 application window. CMO awards up to $1 million vouchers to develop and launch zero-emission mobility projects, such as bikesharing and ride-on-demand services, that fill a community’s transportation gaps and provide access to key destinations. CMO awards up to $100,000 vouchers to conduct “Community Transportation Needs Assessments” that help under-resourced communities identify and develop community-driven solutions that address their unique transportation needs. Learn more about this program here.
