Mason Launches Virginia’s First College of Public Health

Mason has launched the first and only College of Public Health in the Commonwealth of Virginia. With the transition of Mason's previous College of Health and Human Services to an interdisciplinary College of Public Health, Virginia will benefit from increased community engagement, workforce development initiatives, and research of consequence with a focus on eliminating health disparities.

Mason's College of Public Health is comprised of a distinctive group of disciplines that contribute to health and well-being, including the School of Nursing and the Departments of Global and Community Health, Health Administration and Policy, Nutrition and Food Studies, and Social Work.

Funding Awarded to Mason ResearchTeam

Congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Moran, Ph.D. from the Mason Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Rémi Veneziano from the Department of Bioengineering, and Dr. Monique van Hoek from the School of Systems Biology for receiving the R21 Trailblazer award!

With the award funds, the team will spend about three years developing a brand-new technology that dissolves harmful biofilms without harsh removal methods. Biofilms – which settle on numerous surfaces, including skin – can contain harmful bacteria and get in the way of healing wounds.
