“We all must speak out. We must use whatever platforms we have to spread messages of support and outrage, to share history, and to elevate voices of healing and understanding."
- Dan Rather and Elliott Kirschner
Last Monthly Meeting Before the Election: Join Us for Needed Action
Our next Action Evening will be all about making phone calls to voters. We’ll meet via Zoom from 6:30 - 8:00 on Tuesday, October 18 and will break out into separate rooms for different calling options. Choose to call local voters for Dawne Shand with support from the Newburyport Democratic City Committee, Massachusetts voters for Democrats running for state offices, or voters in swing states to help ensure Democrats hold the Senate, the House and Governorships. Register here.
Just One More Week of Postcard Writing!
Action Hour: We only have one more week writing postcards together for this November's midterm elections. Please join us Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 5:30-6:30 to finish up our writing for this election cycle. This is our last Action Hour before the election! We're writing to get out the vote for Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams in GA. We hope to see you at NU Kitchen, 19-23 Pleasant Street in Newburyport on Wednesday to write as much as possible before it is too late.
Postcards-to-Go: The last date for requesting addresses to write on your own for this election cycle is Friday, October 21 with a mailing deadline of October 25. You can pick up more postcards at the usual place, but we're now giving out packets of 25 so that you need not take more than you can write. Please email us at indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com if you need instructions and to request addresses and a script.
With the days so numbered for postcard writing before the upcoming midterm elections, let’s all buckle down and write as many as we can! When you’re done writing postcards, please shift your attention to other actions if you are not already involved with phone banking, texting, canvassing or other campaigning opportunities.
Direct Mail Campaigns

Senator Maggie Hassan's campaign is seeking volunteers at Journeyman Press at 11 Malcolm Hoyt Drive in Newburyport to help get out lots of direct mail. This is both easy work -- moving rolling bins around or making sure mail pieces don't fall off the print line -- and very important for the campaign, as it saves significant mailing costs that can then be used for other persuasion efforts. If you are interested in signing up, complete the form here and the campaign will contact you about shift options.
Canvass Near Home
There is canvassing for Dawne Shand and Maura Helaey every weekend. It is not too late to join us to help finally elect a Democrat as State Rep for the 1st Essex District. Please use the following links to sign up to canvass for both candidates:
Saturdays, 10 am in Newburyport
Saturdays, 3 pm in Salisbury
Sunday, 10 am in Amesbury
Also consider canvassing for Kristin Kassner in the 2nd Essex District, with opportunities every day. Click here to learn more and register.
Let's also canvass in New Hampshire to help Sen. Maggie Hassan and Rep. Chris Pappas win their tight reelection campaigns. Living so close to the NH border, we have an opportunity to help in a way that is not realistic for us in other swing states. There is canvassing every day between now and Election Day -- in Hampton on Saturdays and Sundays, and in Exeter on Saturdays and Sundays, and every weekday

Focus on Voter Protection
Join us this Sunday, Oct 15 at 7pm to watch the documentary "Capturing the Flag", which follows a group of friends who travel to Cumberland County, North Carolina - a “posterchild” for voter suppression - intent on proving that the big idea of American democracy can be defended by small acts of individual citizens.
After the film screens, we'll talk about ways to help with voter protection efforts in addition to the ongoing I-RISE get out the vote work. This film is presented by The Screening Room, Swing Blue Alliance and I-RISE. Tickets: $12; $10 for seniors and students. Click here to check out the trailer, and here to buy tickets online.
