Happy National Coming Out Day for 11 October

Happy National Coming Out Day to you all!

Coming out can be an important part of a process of becoming you, and demanding rights for yourself and your community. And we should celebrate it, when it is done with joy.

But I also think that it’s important to remember that not everyone can come out, not everyone wants to come out, and not everyone should have to come out to be included in our stories, and in our communities.

The students attended keynote speeches by Marcia Langton, Mark Rose, Hayley McQuire, Aileen Moreton-Robinson, and Sami Minister Mikkel Eskil, as well as many talks and presentations throughout the week.

The students are excited to take what they have learned back to their communities and to embed their knowledges into their practice.

Fun Fact

The scribbles on native scribbly gum trees are the result of a unique ecological interaction. Scribbly gum moth larvae tunnel through the bark, causing the tree to produce highly nutritious new cells as scar tissue. The larvae then moults, turns around and eats it's way back along this scribbly path, benefitting from the new growth.
