India needs its own Keto diet to decongest streets; here’s why buses are an integral part of the plan

Recently, there has been a rapid influx of personal motor vehicles, resulting in congested and gridlocked streets. The social cost of traffic congestion is alarming; a study by the BCG in 2018 indicated that congestion in just four major Indian cities—Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata—cost Rs 1.44 lakh crore.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation launches Non-Motorised Transport Policy
Released by Shekhar Singh, IAS, Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the policy prioritises the needs of pedestrians and cyclists and provides guidelines and recommendations to create safe, inclusive and accessible walking and cycling infrastructure in the city. The policy will help lay the foundation for creating the desired environment and behavioural changes in the years to come.

Through the India Cycles4Change and Streets4People Challenges, six other cities have adopted the Healthy Streets policy, while 18 are en-route.

ITDP in partnership with BvLF launched the 2022 Mobility and Access for Babies, Toddlers and Their Caregivers online course in September. This course will explore the who, why, what, and how of mobility and access for babies, toddlers, and caregivers. The course explores planning, design, and policies focused on this user group and explores why it is important to integrate their particular needs into transport planning decisions.
