We're proud to welcome college students and recent graduates from around the world to DPMMR for experiential-based internships. It's our hope that the knowledge we impart to our interns will transcend beyond the walls of DPMMR and go on to benefit whales & dolphins in every ocean.

Americorps Hiring VISTA 
Pacific Voices Community Navigator - Full-Time 

Pacific Voices is a safe-space after-school program focused on helping participants stay rooted in their cultures and traditions, assisting with homework, and helping families access KKV clinical and community programs. The program has recently expanded into Kalihi Elementary school and intends to outreach to more families in Kalihi Valley Homes and other parts of Kalihi. Currently, there are 26 student participants with 15 active online and in-person activities (tutoring, games, art activities, etc.). Additionally, the program currently helps 19 student families access services at KKV and other organizations relating to financial relief, food support, health programs, and immigration document support. VISTA activities include: (1) volunteer recruitment and management (2) database creation and management (3) story-gathering sessions with the community and (4) cultivating partnerships with other KKV programs and departments and outside organizations. The VISTA will have opportunities to be trained in mandatory reporting, de-escalation, trauma and resiliency informed care, civil rights, compliance, emergency preparedness, KKV’s Pilinaha four connections framework, and medical interpretation (if applicable and interested). Kalihi residents and those familiar with the Kalihi area preferred.

National Tropical Botanical Garden is Filling Open Positions!
Maui & Kauai - Full-Time

Collections Manager - Hana, Maui

The National Tropical Botanical Garden is seeking candidates for the position of Collection Manager. This position will be responsible for management and supporting research and interpretation of an internationally pre-eminent breadfruit conservation collection to the highest curatorial standards. This position is based at Kahanu Garden, Hāna, Maui, with periodic travel to NTBG Headquarters on Kauaʻi to support the Regenerative Organic Breadfruit Agroforestry Demonstration Project and breadfruit collection there.

Senior Crop Diversity Scientist - Kalaheo, Kauai 

We seek to fill a senior scientist position to take a leadership role in integrating research, conservation, and extension programs to support and improve the conservation and use of breadfruit in the Pacific Islands and beyond for sustainable agriculture and food security. This position will leverage the research and conservation potential of NTBG’s breadfruit collection in alignment with the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture. A primary focus is the continued strategic development and conservation of the breadfruit collection as a globally significant plant genetic resource for food and agriculture following international best practices for ex situ crop conservation collections. The position will further advance the institute’s strategic participation in local and international breadfruit research and conservation networks, and oversee extension and outreach programs supporting the conservation and use of breadfruit.

Vegetation Restoration Technician w/ RCUH!
Regular, Full-Time - OANRP

Implements natural resource management actions in the field for the Vegetation Restoration program of the Oahu Army Natural Resources Program (OANRP) to meet program goals for the Makua Implementation Plan (MIP) and Oahu Implementation Plan (OIP), and to keep the Army in compliance with Biological Opinions. Implements office and field work designed and planned by the Vegetation Restoration Field Supervisor such as, but not limited to: invasive plant control, native species restoration and mapping using Global Positioning System (GPS) units and Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Abides by and implement all safety rules and guidelines.

Wears all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when appropriate. Participates in risk assessment and safety evaluations when necessary. Drives project vehicles to field sites. Assists Vegetation Restoration Field Supervisor in implementing, documenting, and evaluating work involving, but not limited to; documentation of day-to-day field work, recording, reviewing and analyzing data in program database, maintaining field gear and vehicles, conducting inventories of supplies, maintaining base yards, planning and logistics. Prepares and presents short reports. Works in areas with Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) with professional Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) supervision.

This is a progressive job group, which allows for entry at Level I and possible promotion through experience and demonstrated competence based on an established competency matrix. The work schedule requires that 80% of the workweek be spent in the field. Requires camping in remote areas and rugged terrain for up to four (4) days at a time.

Mass Rear Fruit Flies! Job Opening for Agricultural Technician I! 
Waimanalo, HI - Fulltime

The primary purpose of the Hawaii Fruit Fly Rearing Facility (HFFRF) is to provide the Mediterranean Fruit Fly Preventative Release Program (PRP) with a continuous supply of high-quality, sterile Mediterranean fruit flies (Medflies). This is accomplished by operating and maintaining a production facility located on the island of Oahu in Waimanalo, Hawaii.

Under the supervision of the Agricultural Program Supervisor I, the Agricultural Technician I is assigned to perform the average difficulty range of duties involved in the mass rearing of Mediterranean fruit flies.

  • Participates in essential Medfly rearing operations by producing and disposing of diet, seeding eggs, collecting larvae, and sifting pupae.
  • Other job functions such as necessary tasks relating to Medfly rearing.
  • Occasional fieldwork involving various horticulture duties to upkeep the HFFRF property.
