NOBEL LAUREATES, SENIOR MEMBER NOMINATIONS, MEMBER NEWS, & MORE!
NAI Executive Director Jamie Renee recently sat down with Medium to discuss her work at NAI, her perspective, as well as the strides and efforts the NAI is making to transform the culture of academic invention.

Highlighting the NAI's mission and Joint Project Agreement (JPA) with the
United States Patent and Trademark Office, she elaborates on how the NAI is enhancing the recognition of academic invention and innovation, as well as working to broaden the scope of the nation's academic innovation and invention ecosystem to reach and involve historically underrepresented populations. Read the full article here.
Senior Member Nominations are now open until December 16th! NAI Senior Membership is a distinct honor and a significant way for NAI Member Institutions to recognize their innovators on a national level. Congratulations to K. Barry Sharpless, FNAI 2021, and Carolyn Bertozzi, FNAI 2013, on being awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry!

Sharpless coined the term "click chemistry," a set of methods for constructing chemical compounds with irreversible, highly efficient reactions between smaller molecules. He is one of only five individuals who have ever received more than one Nobel Prize and is only the second who has received two in the field of chemistry. Read more about his work here.

Bertozzi revolutionized biological research by inventing a new field: bioorthogonal chemistry, a class of chemical reactions which allow researchers to study molecules and their interactions without interfering with their natural biological processes. Read more about her work here.

We celebrate with you for this monumental achievement!

NAI Fellow Erkki Ruoslahti has been named as the recipient of the 2022 Lasker Award for his groundbreaking research that led to the discovery of the cell adhesion receptors known as integrins. Read all about his work and how his discoveries have been applied to treatments for cancer, infections, autoimmunity, and more.
NAI Fellow Radenka Maric has been named as the 17th President of NAI Member Institution University of Connecticut. This follows her tenure as interim President, in which the university reached new records for research funding. Read more about her work and her drive for furthering UConn's innovation ecosystem.
We are proud to introduce our newest monthly feature, Sustainer Spotlight, highlighting our Sustaining Member Institutions.

In partnership with the NAI, our Sustaining Members help develop the inventors and entrepreneurs of tomorrow while contributing to the success of our GAIN Mentorship Program, T&I Journal, ScholarShare video series, as well as the Annual Conference, and through their support with our joint efforts with the USPTO, to assist in enhancing the diversity, inclusion and equity in the patent ecosystem.

This month, the spotlight shines on the home of NAI, the University of South Florida.  Join us again in November, when we’ll be exploring the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
