Candidate Forum for IL House District 48 and IL Senate District 24 Contested Races

October 11, 2022Roselle, IL—The League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale will host a Candidate Forum from 6:30-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, in the Dice Auditorium at Lake Park High School East Campus located at 600 S. Medinah Road in Roselle. This event is an opportunity for you to ask questions and learn more about the credentials and platforms of candidates running in the November 8, 2022 General Election.

Our Voter Services team made every effort to find a date acceptable to all 4 candidates. The following candidates from contested races were invited to attend:

  • IL House District 48: Azam Nizamuddin (D) and Jennifer Saniltro (R). Since Ms. Sanilitro declined our invitation, League policy allows Mr. Nizamuddin to be given two minutes to introduce himself at the beginning of the forum.
  • IL Senate District 24: Seth Lewis (R) and Lauren “Laurie” Nowak (D).

The Candidate Forum is free and open to the public. This event will be live-streamed via YouTube https://youtu.be/FzCFfvgBbM8. Note: this is a CORRECTED link.

After the Candidate Forum, a video of the event will be available at www.lwvrb.org, as well as on our voter guide, Vote411.org

How does a League Candidate Forum Work?
The League provides candidate forums for contested races only. All League candidate forums are impartially moderated by trained, non-partisan volunteers. Each candidate is given two minutes to present their opening statement. Lots are drawn prior to the forum to determine the order.

Questions are solicited in advance from League members, community members, and non-partisan groups. For in-person forums, the audience is given notecards for them to write questions during the course of the event. These questions are all reviewed by the League for appropriateness, relevance, and redundancy. The moderator asks questions in rotation so that each candidate has equal opportunities to be the first to answer. Equal time is given to all candidates to answer each question. After the allotted time for questions is met, each candidate is given one minute to share their closing statement.

If only one candidate for a contested race is present, they will be limited to a two-minute statement of introduction. No surrogates are permitted to participate.
