"I am never more aware of the limitations of language than when I try to describe beauty.”
~ Scott Russell Sanders ~
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the seventh week of our focus on the gifts of creation. “We have arrived at the place where we end our words,” but not before giving thanks to the enlightened Teachers, like St. Francis, who have come to help us through the ages.
Like St. Francis of Assisi and the Haudenosaunee, let us never tire of expressing our gratitude to the Creator for the generous gifts of creation.
In October 2021, Sr. Melanie Paradis formally opened the celebration of the 150th anniversary of our presence in the United States and the 75th anniversary of our presence in Wheaton, Illinois. In her opening remarks, she said,
What we have done in the past and continue to do into the future is only a small part of who we are. It is our presence, our living as Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, with our Covenant Companions, our Associates, our families and friends, and our faith community, all of us together – it is this presence of love that is important.
As she formally closed the Anniversary Year, she reminded us that while this Anniversary year of celebration is closing, who we are called to be in the future continues -- “Let us never miss the opportunity to be a presence of love.”
